Having been inbetween cars since my last car was written off by a @@@@, I have been looking for a 328 due to the rep they have. Having lost out on a 323 estate on eBay, along with a xedos supercharge thing, I saw this last minute and ending up winning it, to my surprise.

Well after finishing work I got the train to cleethorpes to collect it. After 4 hours and pretty tired, I made it home after a round trip of about 250 miles. Averaged about 40 mpg between 80-90 lepers. The engine is very nice sounding and feel.

£430 for car, 27 for train/bus. £20 for fuel so all in £477. not bad so far.

So far I have removed the 'm power badges' and ordered a service kit and oil.

The clutch has a high biting point and there feels some weird about the back end, could be tyres or something else. The tyres are Chinese ones so will look at that. The asc light is on but probably look at replacing some parts to resolve it.

So about 550 all in not bad for the sound and toys inside..

Looking thou the receipts a mtec bumper and spoiler was ordered in 2006. The seats also have this coloured plastic bar on them, not sure if standard.

I also found a receipt for the car purchase in 2000, 15.5 k...

Looks like a tidy car, clutch isn't a hard job to do on these cars anyway.

Have a look at the shocks and the shock mounts at the rear, might explain if it is handling a little weird. Though the chinese tyres definitely won't help

Maybe miltek exhaust but can't find a supplier. Induction kit and rust treatment that is it along with some half decent tyres.

nice car mate, i have recently bought one and had a weird feeling from the rear of the car and it was just a snapped spring, common problem on these apparently

Looks nice OP. The 328i is a peach of an engine. £430 is a bargain price as well.

I have a '97 E36 323i SE owned from when it was 6 months old. Love it and couldn't bear to get rid even tho' I have had other cars since. It's now back to being my only car again.

I had a squirmy rear which turned out to be the bushes and I have had the broken springs as well.

If you're doin the clutch then it's worth taking the clutch delay valve out as well.

Looks nice, what is on the front bumper? I vaguely remember them doing an optional spoiler that sort of looked like an M bumper.

The only time I got close to that was when I had a problem and was crossing France. BMW advised that I keep it below 50 mph and find a dealer. That was a long boring journey at night from Calais to Avignon.

If I stick to 60 mph I can get close to 30 mpg but normal long distance driving gets me 25 mpg and driving round town (London), short journeys etc gets me a lowly 19 mpg. This is all measured from full tank back to full.

10 quid of petrol got 62 miles plus a tiny bit left. Give or take a few mpg seemed accurate to me, i was stuck behind a 40er for some of the drive thou.

doing 120 drive back was about 40mpg. It does seem a tight engine.

Check the state of the RTA bushes, friend of mine had a 323 touring and the rear end felt 'off'.
Turned out that his RTA bushes had ended up like this








Old vs New

Took us with basic tools about an afternoon to sort out, there's a few guides on-line that walk you through how to swap the RTA bushes, a lot of people go with Powerflex polyurethane replacements as they're easier to install, and don't collapse or give much road noise, with improved road holding.

....as already said, RTA bushes 100% (very common on the E36)- my 318is coupe was just the same when I got it. I put some powerflex bushes in, sweet as a nut now!

still getting about 35 -40 mpg on mostly b roads.

What a fantastic engine, it feels so good on a drive and feels a lot faster than 0-60 in 7.7 secs more 7 seconds. handling still a bit fussy but really feels like a fresh car. interior in cloth works better than leather.

so far this car is probably the best I have ever owned just for the 6er engine.
