Took it to someone I know called Andy and let him get to work on the old girl. With a regular 'Sunday afternoon' type wash and wax, it looked great.Get direct sunlight or a lamp on it however and it revealed horror after horror no matter how "clean" I thought it was..

No "proper" wax on it yet..

End results (no wet sanding btw)..

Best £150 I have spent on it I think biggrin

Oh my god, that looks amazing!!

Brilliant job, looks great.

I am slightly jealous wink

Just one question, does detailing get rid of chips etc or make them look any better, or not?

Your car doesnt look like it has any at all, yet surely for the age of it, it will have picked some up?

Cheers

It has plenty of chips I'm afraid. This was a relatively cheap E30 with reasonable paint, so it has its share of dinks, scratches and stone marks.Part of the reason they don't show is because I am mostly taking images of the larger polished areas, but also due to the fact that pictures almost always tend to hide things like that (unless they are massive images).Other blemishes are easily missed due to light angles etc, too.Apparently you can help with chips by building up the paint layer with touchup pens and then polishing and wet sanding etc.

She's not bad for 21 years old though, but don't be fooled in to thinking it's a show winner! smile

£150? What a bargain! The difference is incredible. Does he do it for a living? Would be interested if so...

More of a serious hobby at the moment.I can get a number if you were interested (prices may vary depending on the car size and how bad it is etc of course) He's near Rainham in Kent and has recently detailed my workmates Astra VXR and he was really pleased with the results.

looks fantastic, and just a lovely car. I still think those E30 convertibles are excellent. I'd be interested in this guy's contact details too, if he's interested in doing more work like that. Thanks for sharing!

Me too. Definitely interested in details (if you'll pardon the pun) as for that money that is an absolute steal.

Thats astonishing work! If he isn't in the detailling business he certainly needs to be, I suspect his prices would be more to Joe Public though?
