Honda Integra DC2 Championship White
Discussion
This really is a dream car for me, I'm very happy to own a DC2 at long last.
I've owned it for 2 months now. A birthday present to myself, a DC2, what more could you want? Here's the story so far
Following on from this thread, about my car history: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
Like many of you, the DC2 has been such an iconic car to me, infact one I thought I would never own. I've owned to this date 13 cars, a few months ago I decided to sell my BMW 3 series which I adored, and bought a 240bhp Seat Ibiza Cupra. The Ibiza was the quickest car I've ever owned without a doubt, 0-60mph was around the 5 second mark, it was quite ridiculous and I certainly surprised a few people off the line. Unfortunately, the car never made me feel that great, unless it was in a straight line. My mate summed it up beautiful, it's a Polo with an Audi TT engine, what do you expect it to be like? Electronic Steering, Electronic Throttle and the worlds lightest clutch made for a bit of a boring experience. Sure it was fun being able to do daft speeds in a straight line, but I knew I had to go back to my roots.
I knew I had to own an Integra, and I knew it had to be championship white. I found this in a local garage, advertised on Pistonheads (of course)
I'm still not 100% on the slipstreams, although they do look a lot better with plenty of tyre shine on

It all started with a list.
There is something wrong with the ABS, it sometimes kicks in randomly
The drivers side seat bolster padding is worn out
I don't really like the Rotas
I bought a DC Racing Catback, but it's for a JDM car, so I need to get a JDM cat before I can fit it
I saw that some models have armrests, luckily I found one on here and got it fitted last night
The timing belt is overdue
The Type R stickers are either the wrong size (on the boot) or very tatty (on the sides)
The rocker cover needs repainting (have the paint ready)
The car somtimes fails to start when hot (it's only done it twice since owning, but it does need addressing)
Rear sill rust needed addressing, but I've done that
I'm sure I'll find more stuff to do with the car, but this is what I've done so far.
Some goodies I bought straight away:
New car mats, I paid £11 for these and the fitment/quality is amazing value, can't recommend them enough! (search cyber spares car mats on ebay)
Mobil One Oil
Hemp Oil Filter
UKDM decat (which is actually wrong for my exhaust
ops: but I'll be getting it shortened to decat length
and a genuine Honda CW touch up pen, just in case
I got the oil change done pretty simply, I'm glad honda have given us a front jacking point!

The dealer I bought the car from had included some non genuine stickers to replace the tatty ones on the car when I bought it. I tried to fit them, starting with the rear, including a bit of debranding from the dealer who sold the car to the previous owner in 2003.
So the rear as I got it:

Bought a new toy to help with the job

No longer have to use my mums hair dryer now :P
The John Banks badge was luckily just a plastic gel, and came off very clean.

Needed a bit of glue removing, not to worry!

Sorted!
Now onto the TypeR badge.
I noticed the sticker was actually a transfer, on top of a background, and that it was only the top text that was peeling. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the bottom layer to come loose and peel off. I ended up leaving it on, believing that as my replacement was the same size, it would cover it up anyway. Unfortunately as the stickers weren't genuine they weren't the same size.

Residue

The new sticker looked promising

But when I fitted it, the Integra part didn't come off cleanly, so I currently only have the Type R.
The side stickers were also quite a bit smaller than the originals, so I thought it was better I didn't waste my time replacing them.

I then decided to do a bit of undersealing, and to check out the inner arch rust behind the rear door cards that all tegs seem to have. I'm glad I did! I'll let the pics do the talking.

Began removing the rear

So this is what I found:

Certainly NOT what I was expecting! I think I got to it just in time.
Firstly, I brushed off as much surface rust as I could with a drill with a wire brush attachment

I then used a bit of this rust remedy, and left the sills overnight

The next morning the sills were looking much healthier.

I then gave them a coat of underseal

Hopefully that'll stop it dead in its tracks.
I then got under the car, and assessed the chassis rust. I only found surface rust, so I cleaned it up and applied the underseal.

I did a lot more than this but I didn't want to get my camera dirty lol, the car is mostly finished in underseal now, I just have the part underneath the backbox to do.
Last night I fitted the armrest which I bought from forum member uknowiama. Thanks a lot for the good service.

That brings us up to date, a few random things I like about this car is it's the only car I've ever owned, in which the cup holders will take my protein shake beaker

and this was happening a lot until I sorted the cage out last night so it's fixed, who says VTEC's don't make torque?

I'll hopefully have my DC Sports exhaust on next week, and will be buying the timing belt, waterpump etc ready for a big service.
10/09/12
Well spent most of Saturday fitting my exhaust and cleaning the car.
My exhaust setup now consists of:
UKDM Collector
96 Spec front pipe (2.5" collector)
UKDM Decat
UKDM DC Sports Cat back
I did buy the exhaust thinking it was a JDM system, so bought a JDM decat too, that'll be for sale now as it wasn't needed.
Pics do the talking
Got the exhaust assembled first to make sure I had the correct bots/gaskets I needed before I stripped the old one off the car

Car jacked up

Heatshield off so that I could soak the front pipe nuts in WD40

Had to bend the right hand top hole ever so slightly to get the heat shield over the bolt

My little helper

All jacked up and ready

Due to the rusty bolts I had to take the system off in pretty much a one'r, the backbox had already snapped off the other week so it wasn't so bad.
Comparison of the old vs new

The reason I needed a new front pipe, the flange had completely rotted off!

I noticed my lambda sensor was pure white, is this normal?

I remember back to my scooter days that white = lean, not sure if that is the same with exhausts?
JDM vs UKDM Front pipes

Collectors

Got the front pipe and the decat mated up before fitting to make life a bit easier under the car

Of course little did I know that I'd used the wrong decat pipe, so that was a waste of time.
JDM vs UKDM decat length

as you can see, there isn't a lot in it, 5 inches I believe
Didn't spend a lot of time taking pics then just got on with the job, and finished with a wash n wax.

Thats all for now

Looks really clean now! Top job!
Quick question...what are the recaros like in these? Fairly hard? Thinking of getting a pair, instead of shelling out on pair of Brides.
They are probably the best seats I've sat in if I'm honest. I've had a few sporty seats before, and for the money you'll pay for a set of these you can't go wrong tbhQuick question...what are the recaros like in these? Fairly hard? Have you considered Accord Type R seats?

Lovely car Dan. Surprising how much a few new stickers/badges can really liven a car up !
Yup, unfortunately I need new stickers though, as the set I was given with the car weren't genuine and were pretty rubbish. Tegiwa do replicas for £35 so I'll probably go with that

Had a jdm integra a few years ago absolutely stunning to look at and go like stink uk and jdm. Mine also had the same head unit problem :-). The transfers on the side usually come off due to too much hi power jet wash mine did same. The exhaust will sound awesome on change over.
Cracking cars loved mine but due to family expansion I now have a accord type r. Good luck with it and gauranteed to make you smile on the twists

I had visions of this going horribly wrong when I saw the Black and Decker heat gun. I've been using those to strip paint off the woodwork at my house recently and I wouldn't take them near a car!
Haha, the gel sticker came off very easily! They are a gem for taking off stickers just got to be careful

Just looked at Accord seats, Like them alot! Thanks!
No probs mate
DC2 seats are bang on in a smaller car though, Type R recaros in general are always going to be good!

Why not shell out for Honda ones mate. At least you know they will be spot on
Yeah good point mate, plenty of people on the ITR-DC2 forum have the reps though and they look spot on? As you say though, it's all down to whether I can shell out or notI could do with new badges front and rear too, £40 each from Honda

Tidy integra too
Haha, it's actually USN 100% whey, which doesn't taste half as nice as MP stuff Tidy integra too

But it was cheap, at Costco

Shame tat rust seems easy to fix, my Dc2 started going on the arches. Wish I had taken the trim out to protect it from inside like you have.

No worries about the link , im on there all the time, I love that site. Even if its to just look at what size bolts I need, or how many clips etc. I love the diagrams (does that make me sad !) . I have an accord type r too so I'm always looking for new bits to replace broken clips/washers etc.
