Jag XJ8 (X308) Like a Sir...!

I've (semi) lurked on PH for ages now, but have only ever really contributed questions - but I finally have a car that may be interesting to some of you, so I thought I'd share for a change...
Please stay with me if I end up writing too much...
I was slumming around in my less-than-faithful Mondeo after a little accident a few years ago meant the insurance companies looked at me with concern and anxiety. However, some friends and I now habitually go to Le Mans for the 24hours and two of us decided to spend a little on an 'interesting' car to go down in. We would share all the costs, keep it cheap and get rid of it again straight afterwards.
Sadly for my bank balance, my enthusiasm for this idea quickly morphed into me buying a large 4.0l barge and keeping it...!
I decided on a Jag XJ8 because I wanted a V8, I think this generation look absolutely class and the insurance was really very reasonable. So I started researching hard and eventually bought this, which I love dearly:

I bought the car off of a fellow PH'er and it has had no expense spared. All the normal work you would hope has been done to it has been (tensioners, nikasil has not been a problem, likewise throttle bodies etc) and it has a full Jag/Specialist service history. Needless to say I was highly delighted!
The interior was also very clean - which was important to me as I am a clean interior tart...!
The bodywork was also good, but I did take the opportunity to give the whole thing a machine polish and wax. Sadly for my public, there is no photo of me doing this to the car as I finished the great work in a tropical storm, wearing Tyvek overalls with a straw hat on to keep my hair from my eyes. Those passing the drive at the time seemed to be enchanted by my glamorous appearance!
Anyway, probably enough for now. If there is any interest I'll try and get hold of some better pictures (plus some of the foolish Le Mans stickers!)

I can definitely recommend one of these. Very quiet just wafting about but a nice (but very genteel) v8 growl when floored...!
I've been suprised how much calmer I am driving this than any of my other, lesser cars. Even though it's the most powerful one I've owned. If everyone drove one, road rage would be a thing of the past!

I did a year a wafting in barges but couldn't find a good enough XJ to compete with the A8 I ended up buying.
Still have a huge itch to scratch with a 308XJR!!

But this Jaguar is still very, very pretty.
I used to have a BMW 728 which was nice, but not so special as the jag (and certainly no more reliable).
I went up to Yorkshire and back a few weeks ago, and it was perfect. Go up late at night at precisely the legal limit and and it cruises brilliantly. Very relaxing.
So far the only work I've had done to it is rear shocks which were on the way out. And they were only £180 for the pair...!

these look great, my father had an XJ Sport about 5 years ago, he got it dirt cheap because the owner was giving up driving
it was a 2002 and in 2005 was sold for £16,995, my father bought it off the gentleman in 2007 for £2850 (that was the asking price)

Well, it's not quite a Bentley, but well worth having! Even in traffic jams it's nice to look around and know you're superior...!
Part of me wants something a little less practical and noisier, but to be honest all that might be of secondary importance soon as I am in the process of buying my first house. I think running a 4.0 Jag may not be the best idea when all that goes through alas...

Thought I'd put up a couple more pictures of the car stickered for Le Mans. Unfortunately, taking pictures is not really my thing so I have very few and it didn't actually occur to me to take any at the time...
Le Mans like a Sir amused me, so I made up stickers for one side of the car like that!
Which looks like this on the car... Not the most outrageous stickers it must be said, but I thought it was funny. Although not sure how many people who saw the car agreed...
The other side was done like this, for no good reason except my friend who I went down to the race with thought it was funny...
The rest of our group went down in a X300 XJR with many a bullet hole, RAF roundels and shark jaws so they looked particularly cool parked together at the campsite!
