Hi,

Well after my Renault 5 GT Turbo breaking down because it got wet on Thursday I thought I will go and get something a bit more reliable!

Introducing Stanley. He is pretty damn clean. Everything works on him! Engine bay is immaculate. Its completely standard.





Plans for him are to prep him for Nurburgring duties. Hes a bit wafty at the moment and the tyres are terrible (will replace with probably some uniroyals rainsport 2's, I get no wheelspin in any conditions at 200bhp/200nm in my r5gtt).

Looking at getting a remap but unsure where to start. Not sure if I want a RICA map (read the torque curve is harsh but fun) especially if its over 300 quid. But will await to hear any advice.

Definitely need to sharpen the driving up. Thinking Strut brace and I need some ideas on the suspension and to stop him rolling about! I want to do this on a budget as sometime next year I want a focus RS!

ye lol its comfy. I wanted a t5 R really with leather but i didnt like the faffing about on ebay. Saw this and it looked mint. Probably end up keeping it to pull my caravan when i sell my R5 GTT and get a focus

Strut brace will be the single biggest handling improvement you can make for not much money. RICA map is as subtle as a kick in the goolies but great fun, the MTE map is preferred by a fair few people as its more progressive. TBH if you're on a really tight budget a MBC can give good results. Check out T5D5.org.

Make sure the bushes are well sorted and the dampers aren't tired and with a strut brace it should be plenty of fun. Oh, and change the top engine mount for a polybush instead of a rubber bush - huge amount of lovely 5 pot engine noise transmitted into the cabin

Really miss my old one.....following with interest.

Remap wise I tried RICA and MTE...I went for the MTE map as it was more drivable esp in the wet.

My 850 used to run on a rica (310) or similar and that was epic fun combined with straight though 3" exhaust, intake and we think a larger turbo but cannot confirm. It was also caged etc.

With that and the lack of weight mine had it was bloody rapid. Wish I hadnt sold it

I am based west midlands if anyone knows a good place to get the map. Tbh I wouldnt mind the rica map it will surely be less aggressive than my r5 GTT (which is just bonkers!). Or is it harsh even with a light foot?

Any point on changing exhaust/air filter from standard? Or even adding a dump valve (my favourite thing on any turbod car, even though i swear it made my gtt slightly less responsive?)

ill check the OC site out see if anyone flogging some bits for cheap dont fancy paying full whack for bits off ebay

I like it! It's very "Undercover traffic car 1995". I do have a soft spot for old Volvo estates.

Combine a good air filter ( BMC CDA ) or similar and a free flowing exhaust not only for more bhp but for that incredible noise ! I used to run no BOV at all so it had major compressor surge (not healthy but sounded so so so so so cool )

Get the front lower arms polybushed, I went for Powerflex on mine. It sharpens them up no end.

As for remaps.. a mate of mine has a BTCC edition (in custard yellow ) running 350bhp, if you like I can ask him what he's done to it

Be warned, this guy gets mixed reviews and isn't popular amongst some of the people in the 'scene'.

That said, I had the £150 '304' remap on my old V70 T5 and it was fine. A tad aggressive, and certainly not the last word in driveability, but worth it at the time for me.

OP, change your PCV system, usually shagged in these cars and will lead to rear main oil seal failure eventually.

Great car otherwise, I ran a Rica map in my 2nd (incidentally bought from another poster on this thread). Not at all subtle, tyres lasted around 5K!! Monstrous mid range though.

I used rocketandskys remap and I didn't like it.

If you want to change your spings and dampers then I can highly recommend these http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.p...

You may as well change the front top mounts at the same time so budget for that. I've fitted the equivalent suspension to my p2 t5 and it has transformed the car.
