Impreza Turbo 2000 hatch with PPP

Saw this on Autotrader Sunday night and by Monday afternoon I was 350 miles south handing over the cash for it! I have always wanted one since my Dad had one years ago so as sad as it may sound this is a dream come true!

Its a 2000 model year with the Prodrive Performance Pack but otherwise completely standard just as I was after. 78k miles on the clock and just two previous owners. The performance is absolutely phenomenal compared to anything I've ever driven and I am absolutely delighted with it. A keeper for sure! It will be in almost daily use for 8-9 months of the year I imagine so am going to lavish it with everything it needs.

I am going to get the following done in the next week or so:

-cambelt change
-change engine/gear/diff oils
-new EBC discs/ redstuff pads all round
-new Walbro 255lph fuel pump
-Green cotton panel filter
-black WRC style Scoobyworld flaps

I also fancy some MY99 5-spoke 16" alloys in gold so will keep a look out on ebay for some as I don't like the current wheels that much.

Thanks very much I should really get the first load of expenditure out the way first then look for wheels...but those are mightily tempting AND with winter tyres!

Also, these are well built and should not need many mods.

from previous experience (see profile pic):
- redstuff pads are very noisy, most of the time (had with ebc discs)
- filter may damage AFM

Is the Walbro fuel pump not a good upgrade in terms of ensuring correct fuelling on an older car?

As for the panel filter I'd no idea they could do any harm, tempted to send it back when it arrives now!

Brake pad noise doesn't bother me that much. I just read that redstuffs seem a good balance of performance/price. I won't be doing trackdays and generally am not heavy on my brakes. Do you know anything about Black Diamond pads? They were cheaper but couldnt find much about them.

You'll be fine with uprated pump and panel filter, it's what most Subaru tuners recommend up to about 300bhp I would also add to that list a set of clear front indicators and side repeaters, and colour code the the wedges underneath. Will take years off the front end.

Also if it was mine, after the pump and filter I'd be fitting a free flowing exhaust and taking it to be mapped to make sure all the fuelling is all spot on, think your ECU is ECUTEK age so won't be horrendously expensive and it should probably make about 275 bhp over the standard 214. TD04 turbo isn't capable of much more.

I've actually cancelled my order for both of them. I'm feeling a bit "if it ain't broke don't fix it" at the moment! Good point on the clear indicators but I actually like the naff orange ones strangely enough!

Mine is already a PPP car and has a de-cat non-reasonated centre pipe with prodrive backbox, so should be reasonably free flowing I think. Guy who sold it said it'd be over 250bhp on SUL and I don't doubt it for a minute as it feels very strong through the gears indeed!

It's got the ppp so will be circa 240bhp as standard. Wouldn't bother modding it, green panel filter and walbro yes but unless u want to start spending £600 plus on Decat Downpipe and ecutek map leave it alone. U could freshen the suspension parts and fit a whiteline rear arb and drop links to really improve the handling. Nice car, how much did u pay?

I agree with you I don't plan to mod it as it is fantastic already. Money will be spent on proper maintenance and lots of super unleaded! I may refresh the suspension next year but it feels damn good as it is. I paid somewhere under two grand...shan't say anymore!

Why? Just don't over oil it and it's fine. If the AFM ever gets dirty give it a blast with some Electrical contact cleaner - shiny new AFM.

Dont think green cotton filter takes oil.
But your right because the ones that may cause damage are the induction kits.
A good trick to keep fuel consumption lower on these is too keep engine oil level closer to the lower mark.I found it made a real difference, if using proper oil, not cheap stuff.

They were Scott lowe flaps iirc, think they went bust, they were 150 pounds were top quality. They specialised in flaps for evos and scoobs years ago.
