This is my new (to me) clio 172. I got it about 2 and a half weeks ago for no reason other than i wanted another clio preferably a naples red mk1 1.8 16v but that turned out to be hard to find. Its service history is missing And the exhaust is cracked near the cat (its also a bit big for my liking) but its the first car iv had for a while thats made me want to go out for no reason other than a drive.

Before i got the clio i had this for a few months during which time i got it to work 5 times and was recovered 3 times due to some kind of dodgy electrical fault. It also done 19mpg which considering its a non turbo is quite bad.

The MR2 replaced my much loved saxo VTR which i bought on 112k and its now on 145k I never broke down in this in the 18 months i had it.

Before i had the saxo I had hated them and said id never own one but i ended up with mine because i bought a punto GT which turned out to be rotten quite badly and I needed another car.

Not the most amazing car History but all of these have been bought for under £1000 (bar the clio which was £1500). Also not my complete car History but the rest really are not worth mentioning.

Would have held out for a Valver, awesome cars even though there slower then a 172, not as well equipped and unreliable, they look amazing and sound amazing! I had a mk1 172, good when it worked, tended not to work much and this was a 3 year old model on 20k, when it blew up its 2nd gearbox I got rid.

I was going to hold out but when i drove the 172 i decided to just wait a couple more years before getting a valver. I will have one one day smile.

Nice car and colour, makes my silver 172 look a bit boring! Although I do quite like looking anonymous and stealthy laugh

I agree the exhaust looks a bit OTT, have a look at the Stealth cat back systems to maintain the under-bumper OEM look.

Great colour... have you joined ClioSport? Terrible exhaust though!

Looking smart.

Quite a few of us from Scotland with Clio's that go to Knockhill at every opportunity.

Fire up some time!

Thought id update this two years on. Still got the Clio spent a small fortune making it as good as I can. Iv considered changing it many many times but cant find anything better for less than 2.5k without a massive insurance hike.
In my ownership its done 30k, had 1x timing belt and 2 auxiliary belts replaced along with all the brake discs and pads 8(!) tyres currently on yokohama S drives and last month it had its m.o.t and needed 2x bottom ball joints, a shock absorber, brake lines, a wheel bearing and a handbrake cable. I also got a 4 wheel alignment done at the same time.

Still not been on track hoping to manage it soon but Im currently moving house. And it currently needs an oil and filter change and I have a Rhino lip to fit. Might sell up for a turbo charged car soon but since Im moving to an area which has some good back roads I will probably keep this.

Here is how it looks these days bit dirtier now mind you.
