Hi,

Firstly, hello all! I've been a long time reader of these forums (don't wanna use the word lurker!) and since im registered now i should do the obligatory car pics post.

So, I live in Edinburgh city centre, and for the last three years I've been driving one of these things

which was going fine until I found a small oil leak that i thought could be ignored until MOT time. It couldn't, and a week later this happened

The engine and turbo thought it'd be a good idea to eat each other, the labour and parts costs to fix it began approaching the cars market value, and after careful thought, it was dumped unceremoniously to await a future engine conversion, and i went off in search of a shed!

after THREE MONTHS without a car (although lets face it, i don't actually NEED one) i found something that interested me, its a 2001 Merc CLK Avantgarde, with the 2.3 supercharged petrol engine, and i got it pretty cheap since it has 131k on the clock. Even looks good to me, in a slabby sided 90s way, especially with the 18s (from a CL?), and even better, its not covered in rust and all the electrics work.

All it has needed so far is 3 tyres and some wd40 around the fuse box after the multi function stalk had a tantrum. Coming up will be rear pads and a spring. Happy so far!

pics (maybe ill take good ones some day!)

oops, forgot to add the best pic of all!

This is what using a big auto petrol car in the worlds most car hating city centre does for fuel economy. averaging 15mpg, although i do get 35 at 70ish!

yep it's appalling. Sometimes I think the 430 wouldn't be too far off in mpg terms. My mates old ML55 got 10-15 round town!

Sorry to hear about the roadster going pop, I had one a few years ago and loved the car the main reason I never bought another was because they had a reputation even when fairly new to be a bit shoddy on the the build quality and reliability front.
Are you registered on the roadster net as its a must if you have a roadster.
Try and look on the bright side all the time it's in the garage you can't get a wet Sam unit.
While you have the engine out it may be worth putting a new clutch in as they also are know to wear prematurely.

The Arthur Seat pic seems to be a standard choice for Edinburgh PH'ers.

Its the v6. There are a fair few mods that are cheap and easy that I did on that one. The auto dim mirror was a good mod lifted straight out of a scrap e-class for a tenner, also its well worth fitting Philips extreme 100% bulbs if you don't have demons as the standard h7's are pretty poor.
