405s are briliant cars. We had ours for 10 years, diesel was bullet proof, electronics towards the end...less so

Lovely motor my father had two early 405s both were fantastic trouble free cars.
Plus yours is the later spec so you get a nicer dashboard.
I had to pull the fuse on my old 306 as for some reason the central locking would have a hissy fit so I guess it's a Peugeot quirk.
A great car from when Peugeot built good cheap cars what people wanted rather than the modern unreliable trash.

Im going to keep hold of it for a while.. its without doubt the most comftable car i have owne.. the seats are so soft!

It does need a good clean though, the inside is looking very "farm yard".. muck and dust etc

My dad had a lower spec one in the same colour and with those alloys a few years ago. At the time I thought it was crap, but I now think they're nicely styled and probably very solid cars. Shame we don't see more of them today - I imagine they were one of the big victims of the scrappage scheme.

According to howmanyleft.com there is 24 left of the executive model.. however I know there figures are a tad flimsy at times. But you are right, I dont see many at all, certainly not the saloons

I had a totally fooked GTXi back in '94. Christ that car was a heap. There isn't enough internets for me list the bork that sat on those four bald tyres but I'll share its most entertaining feature which was a propensity to conk out if you were low on fuel and went round a roundabout with any sort of gusto.

You will have trouble getting the centre caps for your pug,
I remember my parents cars having those wheels and would lose the centre caps on a frequent basis.
If you find a set your best bet is to stick them on with a bit of clear silicon it worked a treat.

I had a 405 SRi 1.9 I bought for my 21st birthday. I loved that car, and it felt quicker than the 309 Gti I replaced it with. Must have just been a good 'un. I think of their era, the 405 styling was by far the best looking saloon car, that and the original Laguna. And the BTCC version helped a bit too!

After the 2nd set of those were nicked from my GTX, i used a dremel to etch my numberplate around the edge of them.

A week later they went missing again from outside the house. Imagine my surprise when i found them attached to a 405 estate parked further down the road.

People also used to pinch the TurboD badge of the back, presumably to make their 306D look a bit more sporty.

The centre caps dont really bother me, I have a set of MI16 rims on the way

So far the only things that really annoy me are:
Remote central locking doesnt work, tried messing with fuses but nothing has helped
The drives side window only just closes so there is a whistle of wind
And I have to put the radio code in everytime I use it
The boot doesnt lock
I know all these can be sorted, Its just finding where the problems originate from

The remote central locking on these is always crap: I remember constantly getting frustrated that you had to stand in a certain position relative to the car to get it to work.

Love it. Had one of these, and it was remarkably comfortable. Scrapped it when enough things stopped working, and went to a MB 190.

I had a grd.
Cambelt fell off.
Ac packed up - dash out job.
Brake servo had an intermittent fault - sometimes wouldn't stop.
Co car - lease company took it back early as it was costing them too much.
I couldn't have been happier!

Is the the IR central locking as fitted to Renaults of the time? I had to stand almost right behind the car for it to work with my old Renault 19!

Wouldn't be too much work to fit a cheapy Ebay replacement set with radio keyfob rather than IR, surely?
