First car - Fiat 500 Street

Not for me, for my eldest son. And I expect flak.....
In a previous thread (something about whether a 500 could ever be a man's car), the overwhelming view was it couldn't, but I disagree. I got a stupendous deal when I traded in the Punto Sporting thing ('07 plate I bought stupidly cheap for him, before I'd properly considered 17yo insurance), and before I knew it, this was delivered on a '13 plate. I don't want people giving me gip about the whole 'new car' thing, as it makes perfect makes commercial and practical sense to us in the circumstances, for a whole host of reasons.
Anyway, I allways thought these were s
t, but it seems things have taken a turn for the better. It has an awfully slow 1.2 85-ish HP wheeze-box for propulsion. However it has all the stuff you can see on the exterior and inside it has part leather seats, leather wheel/stick, AC, B/Tooth, electric everything, superb sound system with woofer/tweeter stuff with lots of speakers, and it all feels very, very solid. Connectivity just happens.
I have to say, I'm impressed, and I've been very critical of Fiat/500s before...

Looks lovely. I'd have one with the twin air just like that! Or in that mustard yellow. Great cars.
Have to ask... Do you know which, if any, come with cruise? It's just a feature I can't do without now, no matter which car. In the US their version of the abarth seems to get it and the 160 bhp motor as the standard. We don't.

I'm a big Fiat 500 fan, and that is a great looking car. The engine is fine because of how light the thing is, plus less umph for him to pound it into a tree, too!
If I remember they are only £30 road tax and about £100 for a service too - nothing ever went wrong with ours so pretty frugal, and they have strong residuals for when he wants to chop it in, in a few years time - so the depreciation hit is (relatively) pretty good!

OP - Lovely car for your son. If my Dad had bought me anything at all, especially a new car, I'd have been over the moon!
I'd love an Abarth, lovely looking IMO.

Jealousy does odd things to odd people.
Probably a good choice for a first car since they crash well, not a dig just statistically and all that.......
A mate of mine hit a roe deer on the M40 in his wifes 500 and the car just vaporised (His words) but he was totally fine. The car was heavily damaged not unsurprisingly but was repaired and returned in a just a couple of weeks

Doesn't help with the 'girls car' thing much but my sis had a 1.4 500 for her first car a few months ago, I'm really impressed with it and the 100bhp 1.4 lump is brilliant, pretty quick for what it is and loves to be revved. I want to have a blast in an essesse Abarth one now, a bit more power and stiffer suspension should make a very good hot hatch.
