New member, Golf R32 and brief car history
Discussion
Hello everyone, been browsing the forums for years now but never joined up until now.
I'm Alex, and I will start by giving you a brief history of my cars along with the current one (bought a couple of days ago)
So I started off in a 1.2 corsa D lease car. It was the best option at the time for one reason or another, although I hated the thing!

When it was finally time to wave goodbye to this slow and boring thing, I decided to go for another corsa, but this time a corsa C 1.4 sxi:

Felt alot nippier than the previous car, and it was very reliable in the time I had it. Plus was cheap (ish) to insure, tax etc etc.
When the next years insurance quotes came around, I upgraded to the 1.8 SRi variant of the corsa C, which actually was pretty good and never let me down over the 2.5 years I owned it. I know this makes 3 corsas and I am probably not off to the best of starts but the 1.8 was plenty quick enough for me at 19:

I fiddled around with it a fair bit and learnt a lot in the process which was all good.
When I turned 21 I decided it was time to move onwards and upwards, and started looking at lots of different options, from Astra VXR's (of which I test drove a few and didnt at all like the was they felt to drive), BMW 330ci's, and Golf R32 MKIV's.
The golf was always the winner to be honest, and I looked at 8 different R32's before settling on this one, which I have to say is brilliant:

Went to view two days ago, and came away with the car, a very happy chap indeed! First impressions are that it feels incredibly planted on the road, and is of course quite fast, especially considering my previous car was a vauxhall corsa!
I do have some plans for it, the obvious being a Milltek exhaust of some description, a noise to fall in love with!
First things first though, its going in for a full service before my dad and I go on a road trip across Europe in mid April - which I cannot wait to do!
Thanks for looking, will aim to keep this updated as I go, especially with regards to the European trip and our adventures!

looks tidy i know a few people who r32
one had a mk 4 and has done over 100k with no problems
another had a mk 5 and it has been absolutely ruinous, he paid 12k for and think he's probably spend £10k sorting out it's problems mainly suspension issues
and it's only done 44k miles
I have heard that the MK5's can be hopelessly unreliable and costly aswell. Much prefer the look of the MKIV if I am honest, and finding a good one was a challenge in itself. This one has just ticked over 70k miles, so should have plenty of life left in it one had a mk 4 and has done over 100k with no problems

Nice car, I do like Golf R32s, never got people who just call them R32s though when it's a trim level of a Golf... a bit like me saying I've got a twincam, immediatly peoples thoughts jump to legendary escort and corolla twinks and then it turns out I'm talking about a 1.2 Fiesta. Codes work if they're chassis codes, like I've got an E46, or I've got an R32 (skyline), but you don't get people saying I've got a GTi, or a 16v, because it would be misleading.

Nice! Its good to see a clean standard one of these
Out of curiosity - what sort of issues did the other eight that you looked at have?
Yep exactly what I was looking for!

They were either showing their age, hadnt been maintained properly or had been fiddled with, not very well. This was the best of the lot by far, and actually got it at a very good price.
New vw front discs (which weigh a ton) and EBC yellowstuff pads being fitted tomorrow afternoon. Also noticed that there is a slight whistling noise coming from the passenger side of the car. Futher research and I've found its the vac pipe which powers the flap in the exhaust has a leak. Common thing apparently so that will be seen to tomorrow afternoon aswell when we change the discs and pads over
