Mitsubishi Legnum VR-4
Discussion
Hi guys hows it going?
I think I signed up here a while back but never got round to posting! I am a serial petrolhead having owned 25 cars since May 2003! I went through the 80's hot hatch phase with 3 8V mk2 golfs and a 16v mk2 golf. I also had both the 8v and 16v variants of the mk2 Ibiza gti along with a corrado G60.
Other old skool cars include a 1987 nissan silvia zx turbo, 205 gti 1.9, mk1 mr2, a vauxhall carlton estate 2.6, 4.0L v8 soarer and 2.5TT soarer!
Now onto my current ride which was the first and only car I paid for with any substantial amount of money and from a garage!
Its a 1997 Legnum VR-4 type s. For those not in the know these are a grey import galant estate with the same 4wd and active yaw control as an evo iv! it is powered by a 260bhp 2.5ltr v6 twin turbo (280 in manual and facelift spec)
Although the power is modest by todays standard the power band is huge and the handling is like nothing you would expect from a 1.6ton japanese estate car!
Current spec;
turbosmart MBC (13psi)
Ebay FMIC (£70 FTW!!)
Custom made turbos-back decat exhaust
LED boost gauge
Facelift wheel sprayed satin black
Ken and Nigel panel filter
Magnecor 8.5mm HT leads
Polybushed ARB's
55W 4300K HID's (silly bright!! had to aim my dipped beams down to avoid glare)
It managed 215bhp at the wheels with an auto corrected 298bhp at the fly, torque was somewhere between 330 and 350lb/ft but hard to tell due to the torque converter allowing the revs to flare!
So far its managed a 4.85 second sprint to 60mph but not had the chance to get it down santa pod yet. Got a sprint day at curborough coming up with the owners club which should prove interesting as my rear turbo seals leak a bit so I get a nice blue smokescreen on lift-off!
Anyhoo, enough of my ramblings, here's a few pics;

and a quick vid of a lesiurely launch;

I have spent hours reading through some epic threds on here, the 900+bhp GT-R made me need to go to the toilet!
future plans are both large and ambitious, but having looked around and realised no other car can fullfill all the jobs this car can do (work bus, family wagon, smooth tourer and B road weapon) for anywhwere near as little money I feel it s worth investing in so on the cards are;
New turbos (maybe looking into hybrids/TD0-4 conversion)
suspension refresh
carbon bonnet
bigger brakes
evo ix wheels
facelift conversion
Thanks for listening, you've been great!
Peace.

I don't even know where Berkhamstead is! LOL! It spends most of its time sitting on the drive and I commute in the wifes awsome little 1.3 yaris (just turned 100k trouble free miles this week!) but I take this to work when the mood takes me or I am on nights as the car keeps me awake better (and I get home sooner!)
I was self employed when I bought it and need a combination of a van, performance car and family car all in one! I even managed to fit 2km of 24 core external singlemode fibre in the back with ease!
