Let's try again.

I originally wrote a big piece about my previous cars but I don't have the inclination to do that this time round so I'm going to keep it short and sweet.

I was very fotunate when I was 17 to get a Fiesta Zetec S - granted it wasn't the quickest car but it was plenty fast enough for a new driver and I had so much fun in it over the years. I went all over in it, romanced in it, crashed it, fixed it, spent hours polishing it and generally loved it. It handled like it was on rails and taught me a lot about driving over the years I owned it. It finally went as I got a job out of university and had been hankering after a new car for a while.

Here's how it looked when it went, it was standard apart from colour-coded bump strips and handles etc (it was also possibly the least rusty example on the planet, was mint when I sold it).

Whilst I still had the Fiesta I had been looking for a new car for a while, I considered just about everything and a Focus ST was looking like the favourite. I should explain that I have always been a massive Ford fan since being given a passenger ride round Donington in a Focus WRC car by Mark Higgins (yes, that Isle of Man maniac) as well as a Focus RS at it's launch. However, whilst looking at STs I noticed that there was another car around the same sort of price level I was looking at. I never thought it would be possible to get insured on one but insurance was very reasonable and after looking at a few examples, I found the perfect one for me. This was my Z4 Coupe:

Now I cannot praise this car enough. It was a big jump up from what I was used to driving but the nice thing about the Z4 is it could be docile and relaxed when needs be or absolutely fly like a maniac if you wanted it to. I would recommend one to anyone and will definitley own another one day.

Although I was gutted to see the Z4 go, it had to to make way for my new car that was on order. I have been very excited about this car since I first heard rumours deep within the Ford belly. And without beating around the bush, it's fking awesome!

I've been lucky enough to drive a lot of nice cars but nothing has come close to this in terms of making me smile. It is such a hoot. Again, not the quickest car on the planet but not slow by any means. And after having your foot planted for a couple of seconds, you take a glance at the speedo and can't quite believe you're going that quickly (especially in a Fiesta). It loves to be revved and rewards you for taking it higher up the range with a gorgeous sound track. But it's the corners where this car really comes to life.

You enter a corner at a speed that makes you clench up (if you know what I mean) but the car just feels poised, ready for anything and inspires such confidence. The Recaro seats hug you tight and the whole package works to make cornering a rival to sex - I can't be sure which one makes me smile more! It loves a bit of lift-off oversteer and never feels like it's going bite back but I've not pushed it hard enough on the road so it will be interesting to see how it is on track. It's amazing how much Fiestas have come on in the last 12 years since my Zetec S was built.

Anyway, enough of my rambling and time for pictures.

I will probably let Mountune work their magic on the car when they release their kit but I'm over the moon with it at the moment. Was worried about going from a Z4 to a Fiesta but it's worth it.

I just wrote a huge fking piece about my new fking Fiesta. I then accidentally opened a new fking page using some obscure fking keyboard fking shortfkingcut. And when I came back to the fking page, it had all fking gone.

I then wrote a witty fking anecdote about my fking mistake before fking hitting the fking shortfkingcut again, meaning I fking lost everyfking thing once fking more. I am now fking irritated and cannot be fking arsed fking writing the fking thing again so fk it. I will fking update the fking thread when I fking get fking home later. fking fkity fk.

Good effort 10/10 - even uncensors the sweary bits when you go to quote it biggrin

Does it sound a lot like the Focus ST engine?

I really like the seats. Think I walked past yours and a blue one (probably the same as in your pictures) in the car park earlier. Is the deal you got better than the one published in the internal mag?

Current or previous Focus? It sounds more like the current than the previous if that helps smile

Yeah the blue one is my mates, he got his last Tuesday and already had a big chip in the screen. There is also another lad who has a black one the car park at the moment.

Just checked the mag and yeah I got a better deal than that. Let's just say I'm hoping to run this for 9-12 months at no real cost to me smile.

Hideous inside and out, but at least you didn't go for the Clio 200T which is even worse! Even so, they still interest me greatly and I can't wait to see one on the roads. Can you relate it to any other hot hatches you may have been in over the years?

I'd be interested to know how the cost of ownership pans out. I don't think the discounts/residuals are usually good enough to be able to run a car for effectively 'free' over a year or so, but I'm happy to be proved wrong!
