MK1 Mazda MX5 Turbo
Discussion
Picked up a MK1 MX5 Turbo a few weeks ago so thought I'd put up some terrible phone pictures for now
Quite good fun, fairly quick, the odd rattle and not great on fuel - so as expected so far!
Any suggestions/ideas/questions welcomed...

How does it drive! Spec looks like a giggle.
It's actually really easy to drive although does require plenty of concentration when pushing on, for me at least. The turbo delivery is smooth and begins from around 3k rpm with more of a surge that can be felt from around 4-4.5k rpm up until peak power. The steering is well weighted and I like the amount of feedback you get, although for me becomes slightly light at higher speeds. The brakes do a fairly good job overall but I wouldn't mind slightly more stopping power. I'll probably opt for different pads once these are low. The coilovers are damper adjustable and so can ride reasonably well on the road given the type of car. It's great fun as even at very sensible speeds it's full of character. It's a car that also feels quicker than it actually is largely due to the weight and noise. The exhaust setup actually sounds really quite good for a 1.6 4 cylinder. The thing that has surprised me most however is the amount of people on the road that seem to take a dislike to it. Driving a meter off my bumper, being cut up and getting the remains of a screen wash, people not indicating in front and braking harshly etc.

Yes, I know it's a disabled bay

Not a fan of the front bumper but otehrwise it's really nice. Enjoy !
I'm not massively keen either as it's slightly colour miss matched and it sits a little low. It does however have a big gap with no restriction to the FMIC.I need a new cone filter to replace the tatty looking standard Greddy item so that will be next:

Lovely. This car used to belong to a member on here too.
Spec is very, very similar to mine - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Which is still very much in bits. Driving impressions of mine match yours too. Out of interest, have you had an MX5 before?

Take it you find the steering goes a little light at higher speeds? This is my first MX5. It was a bit of an impulse buy, but glad I took the plunge so far.Spec is very, very similar to mine - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a poor place for the intake, right next to the heat buildup from the turbo?
It would be worse if it was where the afm is but yes, not ideal. The fact the FMIC is overkill for the setup probably helps though. There is a very nice subtle carbon fibre kit available that ducts air from just above the bonnet by the wiper arm to right where my filter is with only a small cut out required. May look to adapt something myself.Buzzkill said:
