Congrats on finding your perfect land rover, very cool smile. Bet its great fun. I thought my 205 was spartan but that dashboard is fantastic.

You can't beat an old car that involves the driver in everything thats going on, you don't really "drive" modern cars.

I commend you sir on your fine automotive steed!

Wonderful vehicle, and a great write up to match. One day, id love to have something with this much patina to just muse around in.

Dear Lord - Mrs 2cars4me seems to be shooting game with an under and over; is she American?!

seriously, what an absolutely awesome piece of kit - I learned to drive in a 1969 109" pick-up that my father had bought new a fortnight before I was born and which soldiered on until 1996. It's still in the nettles on the farm and I hold a romantic notion of one day re-chassis-ing it and getting back on the road. I know the smell of which you speak and as I sit here can almost hear the aspirating burble of the inlet-over/side-exhaust straight six. So smooth yet, power-wise, unable to pull a greased stick out of a pig's arse.

Please keep us informed; it's a lovely story

Great old motor. You've really sold the classic LR idea to me with that post.

I think I'm going to steal that photo for a tasteful black & white shot if you don't mind. Just love the battered chassis plate and the cartridges.

Phwoar. Shorten the chassis a bit and that would be my perfect Landy too.

What a magnificent write-up, sounds like it's in good hands! biggrin

Utterly fantastic!

These are, along with the classic mini, a must own car for everybody. There is nothing I dont like about them..
Well, perhaps the top speed of 35/40mph and an average of 17 mpg I got from mine

And might i add, dam you sir! I am now missing my old series 3 SWB.. off to ebay i go

Might be the perfect motor to own along with a little summer toy..

not the best pic in the world..but this is my old girl

took a few days after picking her up, I thought i would see what she could do.. and for a 30+ year old car, I was very impressed. The same day I wasasked to pull a range rover l322 out of a ditch.. made me chuckle for days

Brilliant write up.

I completely agree with you about the complex scent that an old Landie exudes!

Well sticking a TDI in them ups the mpg to 30+, albeit at the expense of a bit more noise.

Here's mine with it's eBay bargain summer top on smile
