I'd not even thought about getting one of these before, but when I saw the lovely example that was the SOTW recently, I was sold. Unfortunately by the time I saw that one it was already gone, but I quickly found another for the bargain price of £900. It's not the most exciting car I've ever owned, but with superb amount of kit (electric windows/mirrors/seats, built-in sat nav, cruise control, half leather interior etc etc...) and a nice smooth 5-pot lump under the bonnet, I really can't complain.
A nice stop gap until our bloody house purchase is out of the way, and we can buy the E46 330i I've wanted for a while...

I just sold my diesel Toledo after 5 years of ownership. Cracking cars especially for the money. For the kit and performance I really don't think you can get better for under a grand. Mine was a 99 V plate and the only thing that ever went wrong was one leaky door seal. They make the Golf GTI mark four look ridiculously over priced.

They're not bad, but to be honest I think I prefer the 5 spoke wheels like on the SOTW.They also look rather nice with the later 17" Cupra wheels:

Not bad from what I hear. Didn't seem to use much on the trip back home, and I'm told high 30s are perfectly achievable on a motorway run. norman156 said:

Keep talking! My commute is the worst kind for economy...short and all urban. MG ZS 180 struggled to better 20mpg which I justified for a while as it was a hoot to drive. If one of these could crack high 20s doing the same I'd be made up as I think they're cracking value.norman156 said:

The Monaro is very different to drive. The whole car generally feels more laid back, with a long throw gearshift that doesn't encourage you to rush, and so much torque that you just end up pooting along at tickover. It doesn't feel faster than the V5 (probably due to greater refinement and the ridiculosly quiet standard exhaust), but it sure shifts when you check the speedo It's a very good GT car.I'm still missing the 5 cylinder soundtrack though.

Measuring the MPG tank to tank, I got about 30-33 mpg in a mix of city driving, country hooning, and motorway work over a 1000 miles. 38mpg was readily achievable at 70mph, 40mpg with a bit of care/ luck. Cold short trips would probably get you 25mpg without a longer run to bring the average up.michaelg1001 said:

Came up on a Google image search and I thought the wheels filled the arches much better than the earlier 16" Cupra rims, or the 16" 5 spokes. Was it lowered as well, or did you just swap the wheels? norman156 said:

Haha! No problem man, yeah I had a set of Eibach springs on, dropped it 30 or 40mm if I remember rightly. Came up on a Google image search and I thought the wheels filled the arches much better than the earlier 16" Cupra rims, or the 16" 5 spokes. Was it lowered as well, or did you just swap the wheels? I always liked this one...
