Hello All,

Purchased this from a very nice chap on Sunday:

Which was powered by this:

45 Minutes after getting it back it looked like this:

Hour and a half and we were here:

With this lot here:

I have a rather lovely 200bhp Mazda MZR waiting to replace the Pinto smile

Along with a huge pile of bits including swirl pot, fuel pumps, 4 pot fronts, disc rear, lots of aeroquip, shiny new bell housing etc. etc.

Deciding whether to reloom the whole car or just do an engine loom at the moment as I'm aiming to have it done by the end of the week I may just do engine loom. Still need to sort a dash but I have a spare Stack/Farringdon wheel should needs must. I also desperately want to fabricate some new lower front wishbones as the standard Sierra stuff is a bit vomit Aside from that it's a lovely thing and with only pinto power went sideways quite well wink Should go even better with nearly twice the poke!

Lol, 3G playing up. Had to reboot my phone to get it to play.

Anyway, looks an amazing car, love the colour and what you are doing in under a week's timeframe is astounding!

You should probably donate the Pinto to a museum or something? :-)

That's going to go well with the new engine!

The Pinto has already gone! Listed on e-bay Saturday evening, collected today. It's going into a Mk1 Escort so at least it's not cluttering up another potentially quick modern'ish car wink

I love the NA MZR, it's such a perfect engine and why more of them aren't being used in place of Duratecs I don't know, (I suppose with Duratec now going EOL it won't be long) it drops straight into the same hole but gives another 10bhp out of the box and has nice, easily controlled inlet cam VVT so IVA emissions becomes rather easy compared to a cammy Duratec. We've had them on the dyno at 203bhp with only a change in exhaust cam, port throttles and a Caterham R300 exhaust manifold.

VVT seems to cope well with quite a large increase in valve spring as well (+20% and still within 0.5 degrees of target very quickly with some PID work on an ECU where 0.5 degrees is about as good as it'll get!) so that bodes well for retaining it at much higher outputs. I'm not a fan of gutting useful tech off of engines!

is the MZR a derivative of the Duratec? It looks similar to my untrained eye and the Duratec was a bit Mazda-ey in its origins, wasn't it?

Duratec is a derivative of the MZR really. MZR is basically a better Duratec although there are a lot of parts which are identical. They're essentially one and the same but generally the Mazda variants have a few nicer parts e.g. 2.0 I4 MZR pistons and crank are nicer than stock Duratec. The version we use a lot is straight out the nose of the MX5 so perfect for lots of front engine, rear drive applications and benefits from having 99% bolt on compatibility with Duratec so various bits go straight on.

Nope! Engine looms done (no ASMs in this one :-( ), bellhousing on engine and engine and gearbox bolted up. Should be in tomorrow then just need to fabricate some mounts quick and can get on with plumbing it up.

Fuel system is coming on as well. Rather cheekily gravity fed the swirl pot but as the tank is about a 150mm above the pot it should be fine. Single 044 off the pot with reg in the back so only a single line up to the engine. All much neater and lighter.

Way busier week than I'd planned with work but it's in, on it's mounts and should be up and running in the next 48 hours smile

Indeed you do Slinks. Poor little Supercat is surrounded by F1 cars at the moment, I think it feels a bit intimidated LOL

Update on progress and a pictures worth a thousand words and all that jazz wink

Front brakes, just waiting on the lower wishbones to come back from the powder coaters.

Rear disc conversion done. Again waiting on bits of rear caliper to come back from coating.

Body work trimmed to fit. Will have to use a cheeky ITG JC DFV filter though as the more standard Megaflow type backplate won't quite clear the bonnet.... shame as I've flowjetted a nice Carbon backplate already LOL

All buttoned up, also new front lights on so bit less frontal area now! smile Want a nice 6 way DTM on the end though... whole thing was wired with insulated push fits so they've all had to go!

Not far to go now smile
