As a bit of a lurker for a while, I guess it's about time I shared my own rather eclectic ownership experiences!

First car: Vauxhall Corsa Gsi 16v. What a load of utter, utter rubbish. I am by no means a skilled driver, but it's refusal to start/go round corners/ idle cleanly meant it was a pain in the nuts- plus I overpaid massively for it. Excellent!

Next up: MINI Cooper. One of the first ones around, cost a bloody fortune (damn the options list!) but was awesome- loved everything about it.

Audi S3: loved everything about it except for the way it drove. Oh and the colour- living in Singapore meant I could have it in taxi blue, or... Nope, that's it. Tuned it to the point of undrivable, big black wheels and very noisy. Cost me 83k GBP, sold it 15mths later for half. Excellent

Audi S5: another shocking deal, but I wanted it immediately and no one was going to get in my way! Bought it a touch tipsy. Another steal at 123k GBP! Loved it though, superb quality, stylish and with the auto (no manuals in Singapore) a great cruiser.

Aston Martin DBS: Great car. Sexy. Too cool for me, in fact I was terrified of it. Switched it for...

Aston Martin DB9 Volante. Wonderful car, horrid quality interior though, cost a bomb in petrol ESP with that auto.

Ford Fiesta Eco something? No idea. Slow as you like- hardly a surprise though.

Lamborghini Gallardo HK edition spider. Error, error, error... Couldn't afford it- managed to realise this minor detail whilst I could still give it back (ex demo)!

Tinned that, now contemplating a vaguely sensible next move. I quite fancy an S8... See how the old finances are.

Make sense of that little lot if you can!

Cheers

There are pics in his profile.

Singapore salaries can bear very little relation to reality, as long as you're in the right industry. People will pay a fortune there for a car to sit in the traffic queues on a tiny, overcrowded, island in the stifling heat and humidity.

It's like Saudi or the other Gulf states. The huge salaries paid to attract Westerners are an indicator of how desirable it actually is to live there...

Because of the high screen price (which incorporates a one-off lump sum to the gov to have the right to own a car) cars are quite often marketed on a px per month basis, which combined with 10(!) year finance makes it vaguely justifiable in man-maths terms...

And re scooters- with the standard of driving in many parts of Asia, you have to be really very brave indeed to take to two wheels!
