New toy: Toyota MR2
Discussion
Just bought one myself recently , well 2 but not at the same time .
The 1st one was pretty much a standard facelift model , which my father took a shine to so he ended up having it after a couple
of weeks.
I replaced it with another facelift model with a 2ZZ conversion already carried out , seems to be a lot of fun when the sun shines .
I'm planning to tidy it up over the winter and possibly get Rogue to fit a supercharger for me .

Wow that would be great, a budget Elise SC/Exige S there!Good little beasties these, very entertaining and lively.
The only downside is the pre-cat engine problem but I'm not entirely sure if it affected all years. I know it's one of the reasons they're quite cheap now and engine failures aren't uncommon.
Might be worth looking into

I see it as the real successor to my Mk1 MR2

That's the Supercharger set up that Rogue have recommended I have fitted to the 2zz along with
various upgrades .
· Baffled sump pan
· ARP head studs
· Uprated oil pump gears
· Cooler grade spark plugs
· Aftermarket cams
· Up-rated valve springs to prevent valve float
As you can see from the dyno charts the results are not too shabby from a 1.8 in a car that weighs around 1 tonne .
I'll update in the future if I decide to go ahead with it , I'm very tempted I must admit .

The pre cat problem is caused by the engine burning excess oil, which then disintegrates the precats, meaning the precats are the result of a different failure. In the late 02 cars they revised the oil control rings to stop this, so my 04 car should be trouble free. This is why the facelift models are more expensive...The only downside is the pre-cat engine problem but I'm not entirely sure if it affected all years. Yeah I've driven a mk1 before, seriously underrated cars and brilliant to drive... my impressions of the mk3 are the same fun, but more refinement and a bit more speed. The mk1 looks better though
