Hi all.

Just bought myself a Series 1 XJ6. It's a 4.2 auto and my second early XJ6. It's quite nice (if I do say so myself) with a barely believable 30k miles on the clock with a reasonable amount of paperwork to suggest that might be true. It was originally a dealers demo car, and was registered only when they sold it hence a 1970 car on a 1972 plate.

I really like how these cars drive, I just feel very relaxed and comfortable when I'm in it. It's surprisingly responsive (0-60 in 9 seconds, top speed of 120mph but feels faster because the engine has so much torque), it rides better then any modern car I've experienced and is very satisfying to drive. You can't attack the roads like you can with a modern car but if you just relax and let the car flow down the road it all comes together very nicely.

I also appreciate all the details, like the nice chrome door handles, and the separate dials inlaid on the wooden dashboard, even the switches for the lights etc feel nice and tactile. The slim pillars and expansive glass make the inside feel nice and roomy and airy, again unlike a modern car.

I reckon between this and my brothers newly bought MX-5 we've got most things covered!

That colour combo is gorgeous! I know my grandad had one of these until I was about 5 from new! Lovely cars and great fun to be 5 sliding around on the leather in the back!

As requested, some more pics.

I want to try and get a pic of this together with my Landy and Stag but it's a bit of a logistical nightmare to get them all together.

Oh my ears and whiskers; that's an absolute poppett!!

If I may be so vulgar, how big a bag of carrots did the vendor trouble you for, as I harbour desires in that direction myself and it would be good to know the extent of subterfuge that will be required to get the purchase past the finance commitee.

I've actually been looking for some time and have seen about 5 cars in that time. We'll just say that most were not quite as their advert led me to hope. If you believe E-bay, good ones are pretty common but in reality they really aren't. In the end I paid £8,000 for this one but I think (hope) it's a decent price given it's condition. As they say 'find another', I've been looking since February.

I don't know if the car from these guys:

Is still for sale. It's a very nice car and better then the vast majority, we couldn't quite agree on price.

Beautiful, used to dabble as a classic trader for a while and the series 1 was my favourite - a bit partial to sable myself!

Wonderful.

I remember cruising about in a '72 XJ12L in this colour combination when I was a kid.
