So, after just under two years of ownership I decided to move on from my Mk2 SEAT Leon Cupra. The car never really did anything wrong but despite the fantastic engine I couldn't settle in it and didn't ever think of it as 'my car'. Maybe it was because it was bright yellow. Maybe it just wasn't French enough.

To continue my 'pre VAG' car history of buying exclusively French not quite hot hatches, I present to you the 'I can't believe it's not Renaultsport' version of the Megane. Finished in signature metallic Malta Blue, complete with Renaultsport developed chassis and a detuned version of the 2.0 Turbo engine from the full fat car with 180Bhp and 220lb/ft.

I picked it up at a Renault main dealer on 22k miles with 8 months remaining on the manufacturer's warranty. Cost to change with my Cupra as a trade in was a laughable £800. Plus the tax disc.

After just over a month of ownership I can only report positives. Lovely part leather interior and chuckable, direct handling with strong low down torque from the engine make it a great car to live with day to day. MPG good for an engine this size with 32 average and 40+ easy on a motorway run. The OEM Dunlop Sport Maxx tires were legal but had seen better days so I treated it to a set of Bridgestone Potenza S001 on offer from BlackCircles.

Cheers.
