My SAAB 93 Aero with some mods

Hello Everyone, My name is Victor and I have been a long time looker on pistonheads. I now its easy to say but there is no day that goes by and I dont look at topics in the forums or even car news and road tests. I have now gotten to the stage whereby i feel what is the point of looking without giving back especially when you look at it this way - if other people did not post I wont get something to read. So below is contains information about my last two cars because they are the only ones I have pictures of

MY PRESENT CAR








SOME OF THE MODS
The mods are not major but reasonable as I did them myself apart from the remap which took it from standard 210hp and 310nm of torque to 250hp and 370nm of torque




THE END RESULTS BUT THEN WRONG SHADE OF RED WHICH I CHANGE TO THE ONES ABOVE - I have now got an axel stand for subsequent works to be carried out as this is risky leaving the on jack alone


All future mods on this include alloys to be changed to gun metal grey which I intend to do myself and possibly a 3" downpipe and bigger intercoller to take to 270 but not so such yet as I dont want go nuts as its is mad fast as is. Although I know of people running 300bhp with no problems

Very nice car gave the you the impression that it was very fast although it was only 150BHP, the plan was use the SAAB as a daily and strip this for track use and work on engine mods but circumstances at the time didnt allow so I sold it.

Love the Saab, I was passed by an estate version recently and it really did shift!

Shame about your old car - I remember seeing my old Astra a few months after selling it and the engine sounded like a bag of nails.

Thanks I remember reading the thread about the Brabus four four, quite nice and saw the mods on it as well, and the old car was a bit of a sad moment for me because I was like I should have kept it for the track but things happen.

Have a Saab 93 Aero myself although it's the combi in blue. Only remapped mine the same as yourself and thats plenty fast enough for normal driving! Should really get some pictures of mine up too. Got some minor mods id like to do as well but wedding forces that plan on hold!

Pity about your old car. Had a Lupo GTi previously which was lightly tinkered with and sold it to a lupo 'enthusiast' who promptly binned it backwards through a hedge and a few rolls in a field 2 days later. Was gutted even though i no longer owned it

Thanks camthebam, I can imagine that feeling - even though you sold it, you still would have some kind of sense of responsibilty coming from the previous attachement you had with the car.

You've got the exact same spec of car as I did (until a week ago) although mine was battleship grey which I was never too happy with but I got it for a good price in 2009 - it looks really good in that darkish red though. Really, really liked it. Got a little too familiar with the underside/wheel arches of it as racking up the miles meant it had a few things needing replaced on it.

Mechanically though it was totally sound and one of the most hassle-free cars to own despite being a reasonably stressed 2.0l turbo engine. Decent mpg too; 27-30 despite doing mostly town driving; ~40 on the 4x Aberdeen to Surrey runs I did in it. Sold it to my dad who always liked it and replaced it with a 645Ci which is a totally different kettle of fish. Drove the Saab for the last time about a week ago and felt a little sad about seeing it go, but at least its still in the family.

Yessss 645Ci is a big one, do you feel like you have been hit hard with the changes in running costs because i have always wondered what it is like to own one of those because I love the interior and road presence.

Well I've only had the 645 for about 3-4 weeks now so only real cost so far has been fuel, and to be honest despite doing a healthy amount of city driving in the first 2 weeks + a return trip the length of the country (covered 2k miles since I bought it!) I've been getting mid-20s mpg which isn't that far off what I was getting with my 93 - not bad considering the engine is twice as big as the Saabs.

Tyres will most likely be the highest repeat cost and it's different sizes front and back. I did run a quick tyre check on CamSkill etc before I bought the car just to what it would cost me. I don't recall the price per se, I just remember closing my laptop and crying myself to sleep. Didn't stop me buying one though

I can imagine the cost of a new tyre especially the rear ones. The most important thing is as long as it keeps a big smile on your face that’s the key. I’m sure you will definitely enjoy it.
