Well after perhaps way too long I've finished putting my little Citroen back together again so I thought I'd document it on here. That way at least I can look back at how clean it once was after I ruin it on the upcoming track days I have planned for it.

It started life as a standard icelandic grey Saxo VTR, I don't have any pictures of my exact car back then as the dismantling began pretty much straight away. It looked identical to this though:

I wasn't a fan of the colour but I travelled around the south of England for a few days and this was by far the cleanest shell I came across. It was registered May 2003 so close to one of the last made I reckon. There was zero rust and only a few minor parking dings that I was able to get sorted by a local PDR man.

Over the next two years I set about transforming it into what I wanted it to be and now it's just about finished.

Engine:
Slightly oversized Omega low compression pistons (1599cc - 8.5:1 compression)
Cat-cams cam shaft
Piper vernier pulley
Solid rocker arms with Piper springs
GMC Motorsport ported head with large exhaust valves installed.
Peugeot Rallye inlet manifold (matched to head)
DP Engineering tubular exhaust manifold (matched to head)
2.5 inch down pipe
GT25R turbo charger
BTB 2.5 inch exhaust
Pace radiator/fan
Forge intercooler / blow off

Engine Management:
KMS MP25 ecu with Wideband lambda controller/display

Gearbox:
Rebuilt Saxo VTR box with Quaife ATB differential
Helix Group N sprung 4 paddle clutch

Suspension:
Spax adjustable front and rear

Brakes:
Hi-Spec 4 pots with 285mm discs front, standard rear.
Green stuff pads both ends.

Bodywork:
Repainted in Ford diamond white (probably as close as I'll get to an RS500..)
Interior removed apart from a couple of Sparco seats and some B&Q motorsport (mdf) door cards.

I think thats about it, here are some pictures of how it sits today after a quick wash:

..and a quick one with his grandad racer stable mate.

Thanks for looking, let the McDonalds and burberry jokes commence! smile

Looks good, I have fond memories of my OHs Icelandic grey (baby blue to her) VTR.

It must be a right hoot with the turbo lump too

In pre modified state it looks almost identical to my old VTR smile

Good cars though, this one's been modified tastefully too - good job.

Thanks for the nice comments. Power wise I don't know as it's only been mapped on the road so far. The KMS ecu allows you to set an Air/Fuel target for each load/rpm point and can then use the wideband lambda sensor to write a correction map which you can apply after a drive. For the ignition timing I have a phormula KS4 installed (www.phormula.co.uk) which lets me keep an eye on any knock/detonation.

Before this car I had a Saxo with a Rotrex supercharger. That was on a bog standard VTR engine and peaked at 11psi at 6250rpm. I did have that one on the dyno and it made 165 bhp at the wheels. This new car is much faster and at the moment is only running 14psi and the standard rev limit, all the bits are in place to turn both of these up once I get bored smile.

A vts engine would have been the logical route but I've always backed the underdog I guess so decided to see how far the little 8v could be pushed.

ps: Believe it or not there is only a couple of thousand miles on that K&N filter, they don't seem to stand up to being sucked too hard!

Am I right in thinking that you have the 'TU' engine there?

Yeah it started out as a TU5JP which comes with roller rocker arms in the head. I took advise that these weren't good for high revs so swapped the rocker arms, valve springs and cam shaft to the solid 'ramp' style found in the 106 Rallye. This should make it good for 7.5->8k rpm. Also the Omega pistons I installed are the floating gudgeon pin design which meant that my VTR connecting rods weren't' any good, so these were replaced with rods from the TUJP4 16v engine. So it's a bit of a Frankenstein engine really!

Cheers, but it's always easy to sound knowledgeable talking about things you've already done smile. Truth be told there was a fair bit of head scratching involved, I started building this engine a year before I even bought this car in preparation for blowing up the supercharged one, something I never managed..tough as old boots the TU engines even in standard form.

Good choice on the turbo, GT25 is a good size for a 1.6. Looks well modified, good job!

We headed out hoping to get some good acceleration videos at the weekend but unfortunately after being dry all day the skies dropped a shower of rain just as we left making the ground very slippy. We only managed to get a couple of videos before giving up but they at least show the car on the move.

Slow drive by:

Quaife diff trying it's best:

Apologies for the bad video quality, will have to look into whats up there and hopefully get some better videos on a dry day.
