it's depressing me just writing the title! 
the time had come to get something with good space, safe, economical, quick enough on the motorway and new enough to hopefully give 4/5 years of 15,000 miles a year without too much extra expenditure.
wanted something as new as possible as we want to keep it as the family wagon for a good few years. selling point was the warranty, combined with the first year or depreciation having already hit it, and the spec you can get for relatively good money compared to it's rivals.
had it five weeks and 1500 miles now and I really like it. previous five or six cars have been a lot more interesting, and certainly quicker and 'drivers cars' but I really like this lump. white with blacked out windows wouldn't have been my choice but the spec otherwise was what I wanted so I went ahead with it.
it's the 136PS Diesel engine with all the toys including sat nav, reversing camera, iPod connection,bluetooth,auto wipers/lights, electric driver seat,cruise control etc. only things missing from next spec up are leather (which I'm really not too arsed about in a workhorse family wagon), sunroof and heated seats/wheel...can do without those bits.
it's not much fun to drive and certainly isn't fast but for now it does what I need and I'm pretty glad I went for it above a ford/vauxhall/volkswagen.

Good spec too.We had one of these as a hire car at work recently which I was in a passenger in. Really did surprise me it rode very well and the engine seemed pretty refined also. Must admit also liked the interior as well and it appeared to all be high quality and well screwed together so decent car overall!
I think this looks like a great car and when you look at value for money and the warranty they do seem great mile munchers.
IMO Hyundai have made some big improvements to their product range and I think all their cars look good now. My dad had a IX35 as a hire car and I couldn't believe all the options it had like reversing camera etc when you look at how the low the list price is.

Hyundai, and Kia are heading into Honda territory, making good cars.My dad has had one of these in your exact spec just in metallic grey for just over 6 months now and I have to say it hasn't let him down yet
He looked at the usual A4 avant etc but the price you pay and the toys you get on this meant the Audi didn't really make any sense unless you were buying it just for the badge snobbery
Regularly gets pretty decent mpg, the ride is smooth, the interior is a lovely place to be
He says he gets a lot of people doing double takes as it really is one of the best looking estate cars at the moment (personally I agree)
Its funny but parked next to my mums 59 plate fiesta it just looks like someone taken the fiesta and made it much bigger

the positive comments have made me feel slightly less depressed about the whole situation 
I hadn't given them a thought when looking at all the usual suspects, then I saw one on the road and the rest is history!
I'm getting mid-high 40s on long runs and can still manage low 30s in London so I'm over the moon with that coming from a spec B legacy!

I tested one of these a couple of weeks ago and thought it was not bad at all. Looks good and lots of room in the back but not as much as in the car I bought - a Skoda Superb Estate. Other thing I was a bit concerned about with the i40 is the fuel consumption which from my research seems to come in at about 43mpg. The Skoda has given me 52 mpg over the 1600 miles we have done since we picked it up 10 days ago.
