2002 (52) Civic Type R (EP3) - In Milano Red

The first ever ep3 I ever saw was a Milano Red and its still the best colour they came in. A friend had a silver one and a gunmetal grey phase2 both brand new.
Do these rust like the Hondas of the 90s? Seen a few dc2s and my Accord Type R was pretty bad underneath despite looking mint on the outside!

Really starting to like red EP3s, and this looks like a goodun. Didn't know they had buils number plaques.

Where abouts had yours rusted underneath? Mine's rotting on the bulkhead but I've not had chance to get underneath and have a proper look yet. There's plastic bungs near the front subframe mounts. Rain runs down and gathers around them causing the area to corrode. There was quite a bit of underseal in the surrounding area and I was afraid to poke around in case it hid anything nasty. Other parts such as subframes, wishbones, bonnet underside and some engine parts seemed to be rusty as hell too. Maybe I was used to newer cars or had an example that had gotten wetter than normal. Either way it put me off the car and I felt like I bought in haste as it was low milage and they are pretty rare. Otherwise it was faultless and good fun to drive.My first thoughts - Well, when its just me in the car and the roads are clear its fantastic. I'm still getting used to sending the rev counter so far around the dial to initiating the VTEC kick. The steering is great, the ride is firm but not crashy and the gearbox is great....
As a car to do things in with the family or commuting in traffic (which admittedly isn't the reason i bought the car)- Its crap, there is no luxury feel or half decent equipment in it, no A/C (in my car) the clutch isn't heavy, but it bites fairly low and there is not much travel anyway, so stop start is annoying, the seats don't return to their original position when you tilt them forward (VERY ANNOYING) the plastics are cheap and the windows rattle (normal apparently).
There is of course a simple solution for me - Use the other car when i have the family in tow and maintain my cycling to and from work :-) And just enjoy the Civic for spirited drives in the countryside.

I absoluely love mine, perfect car being practical, economical (35mpg average for me) and able to excite in the twisty's!

I had a silver 2003 model for 9 years. I always wished I had bought a red one

Excellent choice of hoon car. I still miss my EP3 even now, definitely recommend getting a fast road setup done on it you really won't believe the difference it makes to how the car handles and how stable it feels. If you're just after cheap thrills with it then don't bother chasing power, it becomes a very expensive hobby even doing the basics beyond an exhaust/manifold and induction kit.
