Thought I should start with a picture!

Got the car just over 3 years ago planning to get it on the road, went off the idea soon afterwards and now want to get the car on track and maybe even enter a few races.

It's an ex race car, and was cheap enough for me because it needs full rebuild after an engine fire. The guy I got it off bought it after the fire, got a few bits for it and then lost interest.

I've wanted an Radical type thing for ages but was actually searching for a used seven style Westfield at the time, I saw this and had to have it!

The actual building of the car will be new to me although I've always worked on my own car, also had old motorbikes in the past, always been really hands on. I've been reading/researching about this stuff for years and have every Carroll Smith book plus loads of others so I'm a proper car geek!

At the moment it's in the shed, this is a very old picture but will update this week. (don't expect there to be too much extra done!)



I've had a million different ideas over the years but here are (one of) the current plans for the layout of the major parts. The basic chassis model is pretty much to scale, the engine wasn't me, I got it off the model Library thing.



The main point of this thread is to ask you lot loads of questions! But I'll save them for another post

Looks like a hoot - is the layout different to standard and if so, why are you changing it?

The standard fuel tank goes between the seats and the engine, this really restricts the shape of the exhaust manifold plus leaving very little space between tank and hot stuff. Also, most of the standard setup is quite untidy with lots of push on fittings etc. I really want a fuel cell and getting one of the proper ones in anything but a square-ish shape costs a fortune!

Have always wanted to convert this to a central driving position, been doing some measuring and made a new sketch.



Also, the fuel tank on the first model is 20 litre, I've changed to a 30 litre in this.

With this setup, the centre line of the seat/steering wheel is still 10cm off centre. Using expanding foam for seat.

Think its better having the switches a bit higher up, I struggle to reach the dash so don't want too much on there.

"Shifter area" is just the space I've left for the gear shifter/linkage, as standard the whole shifter mechanism is riveted onto the central spine that separates the 2 seats. It is pretty sturdy but I've never been really happy with it. Also, the linkage runs all the way back to the engine without support, hidden in the spine making it hard to add any support.

This is all assuming I can go with an internal collector/pump and get away without using a swirl pot and LP pump/filter. Anyone have experience with this type of setup?

Does anyone know if the central spine(that separates the two seats) adds any strength to the chassis? It's entirely ally sheet, which is riveted to the floor and seat back.
