Peugeot 306 - Derv alert!
Discussion
Picked up this little beauty of 306 for my GF as she is going back to uni so needs some wheels (as she will be on placement for some of her course).
The criteria was simple, under £1k, easy to work on so I can maintain it, good MPG and also something that will take a tow hitch so I can move my boat around occasionally.
Ok, so it's a diesel, but as a second car that is fine for us (it returned 600 miles from the first tank). It needs a service, some rear pads (picked these up yesterday, £8.64
) and a new pair of boots (a pair of Toyo T1Rs come in at £70 on the net
).
Always had a soft spot for pugs (the last I owned was my 309 GTI - my parents have always run them, 504, 505, 405, 308). This one has worn its years well, I reckon it looks pretty smart. I forgot that pugs don't rust, not a spot on the body and looks pretty clean on the underside
I reckon it should be a good work horse for a couple of years!

I run one of these as my daily after downsizing last year to clear some debt, I think they're great for what they cost. Only trouble is justifying keeping it on the road, mine now needs a clutch and I'm not looking forward to it at all!
They're a good steer and one of the best seating positions in a hatchback IMO.

Mine's doing me well too, serving me up great mpg and low cost running. The 306 is decent car!
Ive disconnected the EGR solenoid on mine to make it run smoother and abit more free'er and she's had new front end suspension all changed, new tyres (i'm on 14s!, bleeding expensive for tyres!). My only issues have been a fuel pump issue that I changed the fuel pump for but in the end it was the brown multi-connector fuel pump relay that lives behind the ecu, plus it broke down recently when it lunched its auxillary pulley. I do regular oil changes on it and run smoothly.. Tempted to remap it but im scared it'll start eating parts that cant cope with the extra power/torque like the turbo etc.
Your fog lights are like mine too, my drivers side one is a browny colour too!

Out of interest, what grade / type of engine oil do you use in your HDI? I'm going to pick up the bits I need to service the car this afternoon

Cheers

Just serviced mine, 5W40 went in there (about £23 on eBay) worth spending a bit more if it's done the mileage. I'm also OCD about oil filters - not so much other filters but I'll always get the proper Peugeot branded Purflux oil filter, just because.
Mine has been remapped (supposedly to 125) and it does have an appetite for driveshafts, although at 12 years old it's kind of expected. I've blanked the EGR and disconnected it. Installing the little blank is a b*tch of a job, mind...

Semi syn or full? The engine has just ticked past 120k so worth putting some decent stuff in me thinks, especially as there is a turbo involved
Also, am I right in thinking the colour of the car is Moonstone Blue? Need to get some touch up paint for a couple of stone chips!
Changed the oil and filters etc today. On resetting the service interval indicator its started counting down from 9k miles but the service intervals for the HDI (as detailed in the handbook) are every 12k / 2 yrs. Any idea why the service indicator has not started counting down from 12k?
Cheers in advance
