r33 from road car to drift car - very slowly
Discussion
here is my slow project, I bought this r33 gtst just for drifting, being 22 at the time I had no way of insuring it so first thing I did was went in for my B+E towing test, after passing that I bought a £700 land rover discovery 300tdi with a dead head gasket, did all bits on it to make it a decent motor and away I went
I had never drifted before but my goal was, and still is for this car to be my beginner car turned into competition car as I hope to join the bdc (british drift championship)
so heres how I bought it
i bought a pretty standard one so i could do it all myself from scratch.
had a few mods but nothing major.
HKS mushroom filter
jasma exhaust
hks bov
apex performance front mount
nismo strut brace
tein front coilovers

started to strip the interior.

then came the deliveries

full set of HSD HR coilovers, got them fit straight away (cam quality is shocking)

then did major service on her, while I was in the mood i did the following
japspeed downpipe
japspeed decat
japspeed type 2 catback exhaust
drop her off for diff welding

then ordered and fit my RSP stage 1 ecu
started to stock up on tyres and wheels

so after all this i took it to my first drift day

ended up clipping the wall and losing a headlight and crash bar :/
so bought some new bits and took her to Norfolk arena to make me feel better lol

quick vid (still along way off getting my licence)
https://vimeo.com/62201836
so decided to give the car a tidy up from my small bump lol

then took her to teesside

then at 2:30 i bent my track rod
home time
NOT!!
lol there was no chance i was leaving, stripped it down and found a garage, heated it up, straightened it, cut down a bolt and welded it to it for extra support, refit it all and 3 more hours of none stop drifting
winner!!
started getting the car ready for my weld in cage to go in

and here it is

then took her back to Teesside

oops lol

running too shallow

don't think I will be going rb26 to be honest buddy, if any engine I would probably go 1jz, its currently running 320bhp but I could do with a tad more, the next few mods would see around the 400bhp mark but that's a fair price away
depending on the track I go to the price ranges from £200-£300 per drift day, that price for diesel in the disco petrol in the skyline and the track fee plus food and drink whilst there. tyres wise I run on anything I can get my hands on, mainly look for part worns on ebay and a couple of new pairs to spread the day out. In saying that I have mostly been looking for Achilles latley after trying a few of theres and noticed they hold out very well.
it is an expensive motorsport but as with all types of motorsport you can do it on a budget if you wanted some cheap thrills.
