Chris Mohan Racing GTi 220
Discussion
2001 MK IV Golf GTi 150 ready to race in, among others the Mk 4 TDIGTI Challenge, within the VAG Trophy this season. First race we are aiming for is Snetterton 300. I'm not the owner, builder, and racer, he is a good friend of mine.
I'll be uploading a video with a full interview with the 2020 British Touring Car Champion
, and a detailed tour of his car when I'm back home and I've located the correct lead! Here is the car as it is today.
Some of the build history can be found on Chris's website (still under construction). Along with his race experience in Stock Hatch, and other formulas: http://www.chrismohanracing.com/
Hopefully this doesn't annoy the mods under the advertising regs as we are not selling anything, please do PM me if it does.

Bit of a sleeper at the moment!
The spec as I know it is as follows:
Brakes: 300 and something mm big brake conversion. With TT calliper carriers, grooved tarox disks, and tarox pads. OEM rear disks with tarox pads. Braided hoses all around with DOT 5.1 fluid.

Interior: welded cage, Sparco seat, GPS data logger, plumbed in fire extinguisher, engine cut off switch. Left in some of the sound deadening, as it is a b
d to get off and going to struggle to get over the 1200KG wet and driver weight anyway.

Engine: Induction kit with freer flowing pipework to the throttle body, larger intercooler, Miltek cat back with decat, mapped to 220BHP and 300lb/ft. Sounds epic (again video to follow), shoots fire and brimstone at women and children.

Suspension: Bilstein coilovers, 500 pound (medium) spring, on standard top mounts. The adjustable caused a lot of agro with a ticking noise. Wheels to be delivered, but 225/45/17 Dunlop Derrezas are ready and waiting.

At the 12mph I have driven the car it feels beautifully damped on a farm track, with boost chiming in nice and early on at 10% throttle.
Chris is a real racer that can find air where the rest of us see steel and gravel.
Will rock the PH Smiley (only if it can be blagged) if we get enough response, thanks for looking!

Sorry but can't think of anything worse than this as a base for a competition car completely and utterly the wrong choice of car to turn into a race car - engine a turgid 4 pot tractor engine, the mk4 Golf is the worst handling Golf ever built what possible reason to chose to race one ?

...because they are inexpensive, fantastically tunable and well supported.Careful when regurgitating forum nonsense

That's OK Rallycross not everyone's cuppa I suppose. I had a similar reaction when he told me he was buying a MK4 Golf. I had a spin @ Llandow when it was stock and I think your comments are pretty fair for a stock machine.
Fancy joining us @ a hill climb of your choice in your MR2? Spectacular series MR2s in 750MC, we were at Brands in 2011...

Have you ever tried competing in turbo derv ?Careful when regurgitating forum nonsense

I have once (and I won my class) but it was a horrible thing to drive.
The lack of engine noise made it a very strange feeling all I could hear was the gravel and stones hitting the floor - only the rev counter told me how many revs I was pulling. The power band is very narrow you have to drive them in a completely different way than normal eg changing up when you'd want to hang onto a gear as it scrabled for grip and then dropping out of power when it found traction again so you'd bog down ( this was in a 205 Gti rally car that we fitted an Hdi turbo diesel in)
And what about the spectators watching as a grid of smoking rattley oil burners drone off the grid - who'd pay to see (and smell) that?

Not you obviously......I have once (and I won my class) but it was a horrible thing to drive.

Much to everyone else's relief I'm sure.
OP: nice to see something different, looks good

Yes brands 2011 was most spectacular (for the wrong reasons!).Fancy joining us @ a hill climb of your choice in your MR2? Spectacular series MR2s in 750MC, we were at Brands in 2011...
Hill challenge sounds like fun I will need to chose something with more power though!
I thought I would post a few updates now we have completed the first race meeting in the new car and, astonishingly come back with a result.
A short interview and overview of the car can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl3T0NcF7hw
Chris managed to put a in a stellar performance the other weekend finishing the Sunday race third in class on his first outing on the new 300 layout without any shakedown testing.
Ride on board with Chris http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zKrP5UlBd8
Here is how the car looks with some proper wheels and tyres on! Next mod will be a passenger seat (as we are very close to the 1200KG minimum weight, so have the flexibility to play around with some fuel and ballast.

Go Pro Ready!

Nerves settling in in Parc fermé...

Post race - Smiles all around. Chris had a good race with this chap in a Mk3 VR6. There was still too much roll in the car so we'll be looking at some stiffer springs soon.

Needless to say we are both pretty excited about next season. It'll be fun just keeping it out the gravel!
