Sarahs new Saab Mk2!!
Discussion
So this weekend saw the collection of Sarah's new Saab after the last one was destroyed when I was taken out on the M25 by a lovely Romanian Truck who's driver wasn't paying attention.
Whilst I really begrudge buying a car from a dealers Craig Woodhouse at Ian Allen Saab in Virginia Water in Surrey did us a great deal…on the car.
So here are the before pictures….car didn't look all that bad apart from the horrid greasy tyre dressing and the polish residue in the gaps etc, but for a quick valet it was ok to most peoples standards.

DAY 1: Wash and Interior detail
So whilst I had covered the car in a strong mix of Auto Glym PowerMax3 through the foam lance on the hot pressure washer I gave the wheels a liberal coating of Fall-Off and left it to do its work….followed by my trusty EZ-Detail brush to get behind the spokes (I wanted to take the wheels off but it seems the locking wheel nut had gone missing….new one on order already!)

This is the colour of the water from what seemed like a fairly clean interior!

Used a fairly strong solution of Auto Glym Clean All along with a magic sponge, microfibres, brushes and a bucket of hot water…..I would like to add this was only the interior plastics and leather parts of the seats that generated the dirt you see in the bucket!!!
So here are the interior after shots….once all the trim had dried off it was dressed with Auto Glym Silicone Pumpasol, to get a nice factory finish I have found that if you spray it onto the micro fibre then apply you get a really factory uniform finish….the seats fabric portions were wet vac'ed and the leather portions were cleaned with Zaino Leather Cleaner then dressed and fed with Zaino Z10 Leather in a Bottle.

Also part of the was process was the engine bay….it wasn't that bad to be honest but it could have been better….so here are the afters of this…

Whilst I had the car outside an running up to dry the interior out I went about claying and deterring the panels….to be honest there really wasn't much that came off….same for the tar…seems the valeter at Ian Allen did actually remove something correctly
Here are a quick few shots of the paint condition…. Not shocking but certainly shows how a Pdi polish can fill and mask a tone of defects!!

And finally the completed after shots, I did a 2 stage paint correction on it first stage was using a 3M yellow pad with Scholl S3 Gold to remove the defects then to refine the finish and add extra gloss a 3M blue pad with Scholl S30 nano compound. This was followed with washing the car again drying then doing a full IPA wipedown followed with Zaino AIO then Zaino Z2

Looks great, especially after all the effort you put into it.
How did you deal with the rust on the calipers, my Dads new one has it in the same area ?
I havent actually done anything to the calipers or disk centres as of yet sadly its missing the locking wheel nut key (dealers are getting a new one) the mixture of the Fall-Off followed by the Auto Glym Wheel cleaner (acid based one) kills off the rust.

When I have the wheels off I will tart them up with some silver smooth rite though cant stand grubby callipers though

Looking good Nick, and a very nice colour/alloy combination which sets the car off well.
When are you going to fit a roll cage?
LOL not planning on doing any more crash testing for a while When are you going to fit a roll cage?

I didnt like the wheels tbh with you....but once they were properly cleaned and had some Zaino applied they look much better.

Looks good. Funnily enough I read your mishap thread over on UKSaabs a few days ago and was rather impressed at how well the car coped with the hit(s) it took. Hopefully you won't have to experience anything similar with this one!
It was a no brainer really a car that safe is what I want my wife in
Nice looking 93. I wanted that colour but in the end couldn't find one at the time with the spec/price range, so I plumped for a dark blue one.....which I really like. Could do with a paint correction mind but for a work horse it will do!
Interior is such a nice place to be, even at 7 years old although I think mine was previously owned by a rather fat chap as the drivers seat is not quite so 'tight' anymore and does squeak/groan when you move around.
Can I ask, is it a 150bhp one? Reason being I noticed there wasn't a red 'T' on the back but a local Saab specialist told me they didn't make an automatic 120bhp version, only manuals?

Yes its the 1.9TiD 150bhp 6 speed auto. The badge did have red in it but it was fading one other reason I debaged the car (the other reason being I hate badges on the bootlids!).Interior is such a nice place to be, even at 7 years old although I think mine was previously owned by a rather fat chap as the drivers seat is not quite so 'tight' anymore and does squeak/groan when you move around.

That explains it then...What do you think of the auto? My only gripe with mine is it changes to 6th at 70mph which seems ludicrously high to me, especially for economy runs. It's worse when you want to overtake something on the m'way, move from lane 2 to 3, just give it a little more gas and it drops to 5th when you don't need it to!

I had the same set up in my old Cadillac BLS, the gearbox is stupid it needs to change up faster, i'd end up putting it in to manual and forcing it to move up.What do you think of the auto? my current 9-3 TTiD auto - the autobox is great !totally different, 30mph there it goes in to 4th unlike the old one where you had to be doing 40mph for it to move up to 4th.

Caddy BLS is a Saab 93...made in the Trollhatten factory on the same line as the Saabs....its only the front and rear panels that are different the doors etc are the same my current 9-3 TTiD auto - the autobox is great !totally different, 30mph there it goes in to 4th unlike the old one where you had to be doing 40mph for it to move up to 4th.

I havent really driven it that much only back to the workshop on Saturday AM then back home on the Sunday. It does drive really nice though and the gearbox is smooth as silk....the same if not better than some of the germans on the road today.
Sarah loves it she took it to work today and managed 41mpg without trying
