Sold my 60 plate 1.6 manual petrol A3 Technik and picked up a 57 plate 2.0 diseasel S tronic S line on Wednesday.

A friend who owned it for several years was selling it and I thought it was a good opportunity get into a faster and more economical for my 20k motorway commute!

It's the 170bhp variant with a DSG box and launch control, full leather, Bluetooth phone prep, sat nav and FASH. Car is in absolute immaculate condition inside and out - no scratches or dents. All that needs sorting is an iPhone adapter for the telephone prep on the dash so that signal gets routed through the fin in the roof.

Hmmm, I'd hazard a guess he's talkinging about the MPG readout on the dash.

How does a well specced prefacelift feel compared to a boggo facelift?

No real difference, the interiors are pretty much identical. The speedo displays are nicer on the facelift though using white and reds, whereas on this one it's red red and more red which isn't as clear.

4 replies and no-one has mentioned DPFs yet...?

Give it a few moments of high rev/low gear running once in a while to keep your car tip top.

Nice colour - Akoya IIRC? Missus wanted her long departed A3 in that colour. Always liked it.

Yep Akoya, I quite like it. It's a bit more interesting than boggo silver that I had on the last one.

I did 150k in a Akoya (new to me) sportback version...

Firstly, 20k a year..pffft, get the dpf sorted. Dont drill it out either....

Secondly, love the 3rd gear pull in them!!

Do I need a third?

So how did you manage 15.5mpg in a diesel?

How are you finding the ride on the 18's and s-line suspension? I've finally got fed up with ours!

Only done 100 miles so far and found the wheels and suspension very good.

It pulls like a train in third gear.

The downside is I have averaged 26 mpg (calc by me, not computer) which is extremely worrying as I got 10mpg more in my petrol...

Why is the MPG so bad on these / worse than the petrols?

I bought it to save some money on fuel. Argh.

If you boot them then you get low MPG but if you drive them well then you can see double that.

I've done plenty miles in all variations of 170's and they're cracking engines.

I wouldn't worry about the DPF on it. If you notice it idling at bang on 1k then take it blast up the motorway and keep the revs above 2k!

What is the benefit of removing the DPF?
