Hyundai Coupe V6 Former Shed of the week

Got my girlfriend one of these to runaround in over the winter, something sporty under 2k and not french were the conditions. Tried to talk her into a late Prelude or Accord Coupe as they are bullet proof but she never liked the look of them, so after much trawling we had settled on a Hyundai Coupe, Puma or a Celica. Looked at a good few of each, Puma seemed a much lower rent car although obviously it is dynamically a better car, that wasn't really the top priority here, didn't like the Celica interior, and then found a December 2004 V6 Coupe, 47k,full service history, pretty close to mint, only fault is the air-con isn't cold and a couple of tyres are nearly out £1695 in a small car dealers, went and had a look and got it for £1550. For the money its unbelievable. To drive its a weird conundrum, feeling incredibly torquey low down - pulls 6th from 20mph without hesitation, midrange though is weirdly flat and then its better again as you get closer to the rev limit, always very smooth and quiet though. Handling is not bad but ride is surprisingly harsh, I thought it would be set up more as a GT than a sportscar as that would suit the car better. Fuel consumption doesn't seem too bad, 30mpg easily on the motorway if you stay below 80.
Would heartily recommend this model for the money, can't think of much else I've ever bought that was overall better value.

I had one of these a few years back, great car. Agree with what you say, a very lazy performer, more of a cruiser then a sports car. Fitted mine with a K&N induction kit, didn't do a great deal for the perfomance other than a slightly crisper throttle response, however it made a great noise.

As above, they are great little cars, particularly at that price-point. I too had a K&N induction kit, but also a cat back exhaust and a heat-absorbing intake spacer. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. It was very entertaining, with a throttle-adjustable chassis.
