Volvo 940 2.3lpt rwd! Winter fun! And more boost!

After a few weeks dithering whether to buy this or not I took the plunge! It has had one owner and full service history. Been sat for a year and it flew straight threw the mot! So this is a low pressure turbo and comes with 135bhp and runs a mere 3.5 psi! So firstly brought a boost gauge and she is now running 12psi and has made a world of difference! I also plan a decay and a panel filter. Plans are to keep it looking original and not do anything to savage

Cheers, should be 200 now which isn't a bad upgrade for £20! There's a surprising amount of info about tuning around and 300bho isn't to hard to reach. It'll certainly surprise a few things as it is and nice and torquey

Great old bus, I had a similar one owner wentworth turbo think it was a 2.0 good fun in the winter tough as a Sherman tank these old things! Never got round to turning the boost up but read the iron block on these can cope with massive amounts of boost,

Excellent. I bought a similar 740 shed for winter hooning around Norfolk a few years ago, for £130...

I had all the rear-wheel drive, 'Swedish Wardrobe' style indestructability and fun as you, and all this was without a turbo, just a normally-aspirated old 2.3 lump.

I would imagine that with the turbo capability, the whole country will be able to hear the sound of your laughter almost every day this winter...

Yeah it has already made me chuckle a bit! I don't think many people would expect to see such a vehicle driven sideway! Some have a diff which locks upto 25mph and can be modified to work at any speed

Have fond memories of driving my old boss's turbo estate. So comfy and effortless, and surprisingly grunty.

Could never get it to oversteer in the dry though, and believe me I tried!

These are so awesome, I'm fully converted and can't see myself letting mine go anytime soon. Mine is sporting cut springs, MBC at circa 10-12psi, massive cone filter and I've had the back box removed. With its 185 section tyres it is absolutely hilarious fun in moist conditions.

These are pretty darn good in the snow! Never managed to get my 740 or 940 stuck! I did buy a boost gauge for my 940 but never bothered having it fitted. Its quick enough for what I need!

They are pretty indestructible! Looks like a good buy

I used to work for a Volvo dealer. The best days 'work' I ever did was collecting a 960 saloon from about 200 miles away in pouring rain, I did the whole trip back on as many backroads as possible & tried to avoid ever pointing the way I was going

I ended up driving my 940 through a friends very muddy field the other day and was astonished. It is fitted with the locking diff and was so sure footed as to lead to my friend in the passenger seat asking if the car was 4x4!

I presume with either a bleed valve, or he's wound the actuator arm out.

What about fueling though? Sounds like a recipe for blown head gaskets simply winding up the boost.

Haha! That does look awesome! Yeah sorry it's got a bleed valve and your safe to run upto 12 as these ecu recognises and more fuel I know it's safe as I've researched and these red block engines are pretty tough!
