1975 Land Rover Series 3 88"

Morning all,
Just thought I'd share a few pictures of my new Land Rover, purchased on a whim at a local farm auction this weekend
A friend and I went to the auction, with him having set eyes on a tank (a GKN Sankey FV432 MK2 Armoured Personnel Carrier if you were wondering), with me just going along to confirm what a good idea it would be for him to buy it 
Following the auctioneer round, we were led to a collection of Land Rovers. There were a couple of Defenders and Series 1s, but they looked too far gone for me to bring back to life.
After those lots had sold, I took a look around this S3 and was surprised how solid it was. 30 seconds later, I had won it for the sum of £800. I didn't even know if it was petrol or diesel, or even if it ran!
A few gallons of fuel and a new battery later, she fired straight into life (what brilliant engines these 2.25 petrols are). Absolutely everything, with the exception of the washer jets are in perfect working order.
It was used on a local farm for a few years, and has been off the road since 2006, but it has been used sparingly and stored inside. This is reflected in the state of the chassis, bulkhead footwells and rear crossmember, which are all in good shape.
Plans are to get a few bits done to it. RHS outrigger needs a bit of work, but the hole is no bigger than a 10p piece, door tops (and maybe doors), new dash top, new cat flap glass, paint the roof and sides in white (as per original), sidelight lenses, and just service it, give it a good clean and make sure it's in fine health. Then go and have some fun in the snow!

Based on the above statement, I'd expect it to be bodged in several places. I should know as my 83 Series 3 was farm owned 
However, £800 is a bargain and it looks quite straight from those photos. If you hold onto it until the government change the VED laws, it may even become tax free
Petrol engine is definitely the better engine compared to the diesel. Diesel is dog slow and pretty noisy.
Whats the interior like? Has yours got any niceties such as overdrive and delux seating?
Whats the gearbox like? These can be a really weak area on series Land Rovers.

Very similar to mine - a 73' 2.25 petrol short-wheelbase model, except mine has windows in the rear.
Mine doesnt get used much, other than to take it out for an MOT, or the odd bit of wooding or towing, but when other more modern stuff fails to start, this will go on and on, whatever the weather. Just charge the battery, pump the fuel primer and away it goes - never complains.

Nope, she is about as basic as they come. I will probably add deluxe seating (or at least replace the current seats, they look a bit tired), and maybe some acoustic rubber mats.
Gearbox is spot on I think, not had any issues yet. Everything selects without crunching, doesn't jump out of gear, seems to behave without issue. Only had a chance to drive it around some private roads and get it up to about 30 mph, turned out to be one of the scariest motoring experiences going! I had forgotten to check the tyre pressures before I left, 2 were about 7psi Good fun though 
Now a case of ordering all the bits to get her back on the road, I had forgotten how nice it is to order parts that are so cheap
