After 18 months trouble free motoring in an Alfa 159 I decided on a change, I do a lot less miles than I used to so decided on something more fun.
After weeks of looking, I came across a standard 2004, no mods inside or out and only done 40,000 miles

Only picked it up on Thursday and done about 600 miles so far, it will be my daily driver.
No plans for any major modifications, I have just ordered some new washer jets and will be ordering some Ralliart mudflaps in the near future

Chavtastic! Always fancied one of these myself but was deterred by the ridiculously short service intervals - about every 5000 miles IIRC.
Every 4500, I do roughly 6000 a year so every 8 months or so.It is the first car in a while I have wanted to drive just for the fun of it.
Ah I do miss my Evo. I had a 260 back in 2005 bought as an ex demo. I put an exhaust, down pipe air filter and remapped it so it was sitting on 350bhp. Awesome car but the running costs for the miles I was doing at the time meant it was mental (in 3 months it had 2 services, I replaced the tyres when I got it and they were on the limit when it was sold, dampers & springs needed replacing twice, head unit broke and it arsed £1,000 in fuel in that time. It was still awesome though)

Apparently the 260s arent proper evos.Stick a normal spoiler on it and all will be fooled.
my mate had one of these about 4 years ago , it didnt drink less than a normal evo for sure and wasnt much cheaper to insure .
i came away from a passenger ride with the feeling that the turbo aint up to the job after 5.5k.I mean you can really feel the boost dropping off.
anyway a remap will sort that ,nice car

I've not read any of the info on the link but I'd imagine its the same badge snobbery you get everywhere. Having owned an Impreza WRX I was told I should have bought an STI, a proper Impreza.
Yes, I had quite suspected it would be the usual misguided mindset that had seen so many WRX's and Turbo 2000's sneered at.Baryonyx said:

I spent less than a grand and had enough kit to increase power to north of 300bhp, and suspension and braking to match the performance (Bugeye WRX). It would have cost me more than the £1000 to buy an STI at the time.Having seen what one of the posters said above, an easy 90 bhp extra on the Evo 260 is not far away.
Edited to add: I have a VX220 NA now, the misguided mindset must be exploding with the 'got the wrong car, wrong model' bull!
IIRC at the time it cost less than £1500 to take it to 350bhp, and I could have done it cheaper tbh.
The only real downside over the 260 over the others in the range (imo) is it came with the 5-speed box rather than the 6-speed (never really bothered me tbh its not exactly designed for motorway cruising) and never got the Bilstien suspension. At the time they also reckoned that the 260's were making the same power as the 280's anyway.

I looked at a few FQ models but they had too much work done to them, some had launch control fitted, decided to stay away as it doesn't take a genius to work out the life they could have had. If the right FQ had come along I would of had one but it didn't and I was not going to wait forever. Finding a standard car was fairly difficult
It is believed most of the internals are the same as the FQ range but with a smaller turbo and different cams.
The six speed gear box is not as strong as the 5 most, but for the kind of power I have it would have been nice to have the extra gear
It will be having a full fluid change in the next month or two then on to the rollers to see what power it is making.

Nice example and increasingly hard to find a standard spec if not near impossible, I myself was recently in the market for one and eventually found a nice E6 from someone on the MLR who had a nice selection of Evo's.
Seems like you found a good one and very easy to see around 350bhp if you so wish, slightly more involved than just an exhaust and air filter though.
Always will be snobbery with the model, one reason I got an E6 as I am a bit materialistic and wanted the FQ.
FQ's seemed abused or heavily modified with pops and bangs (pretend anti lag) or launch control mapped in which put my off massively not knowing how much it may have been abused or how long it had been thrashed with the modifications on.
All in all I think you did pretty well, looks a nice tidy and well looked after motor, i'd have it over an abused FQ anyway, don't get me wrong there's some lovely FQ's about but a lot of dogs!!
What's it like underneath more importantly???
