Passed my test a couple of weeks ago. Bought this a few days ago. Celica GT 190 with 55K on the clock. Now having major problems getting it back off the wife. Fun car though, glad I chose it. Should strike a nice balance between performance, affordability and reliability. Outright speed will be the preserve of the Honda Blackbird tucked away in the garage.

Obviously after Gulzar's latest magnificent effort I should have wrapped it in leopardskin but call me a bluff old traditionalist...

Lovely car, my brother has one.

Not having a dig but why wait till you were 40? Just curious!

No offence taken. I failed my test when I was 18 and couldn't afford any more lessons (could only afford 10 in the first place!)so I didn't retake. Then went to Uni in London and ended up staying up there for 12 years. Never needed a car while I was there. About the age of 30 I moved to Oxfordshire and got my bike licence (albeit i did the training and test in Elgin, Scotland). Been whistling about on motorbikes ever since and then last year i got married and had to grow up! Also a bit tired of the prospect of another winter on the bike to be honest.

Stuff
I done it the other way round, car at 17, bike license at 26

When I first started riding bikes it was such a revelation, and I have been addicted ever since to the point I think I probably would have been in your shoes and not bothered with the car till I had to...

Definitely quite weird in comparison to riding a bike. You're engaged, but in a completely different way. And you have to worry about a completely different set of dangers/hazards. I just find it hugely convenient not to have to dress up like a prick just to get to the shops in winter.

Nice car. Always had a thing for these. But please, send in some photos of you going to the shops in it and let us judge whether you are still dressed like a prick.

Fair point. I dress like a prick most of the time.

I'm having to dress like a prick with my car at the minute, because my awesomely french heaters in the 205 are having a bit of a rest.

Lovely Celica!

Great cars, still miss my T sport. If you want to get a bit more out of the mid range and stay in 'lift' easier, search for se7en Motorsport cams

Without sounding cheesy you really are a part of the machine, compared to the car which just feels digital in comparison, especially when you've a diesel mondeo like me frown

100 miles in that then straight onto the bike feels amazing though!!

Dressing like a prick is a pain especially when you have to get changed again once you get into work...

Biking gear is a pain. I once arrived at work with a snail clamped to the side of my crash helmet. Hadn't noticed the little bd when I picked it up and put it on in a hurry.I wondered what the weird looks from the security guards were all about when I showed my pass at the front gate. Snail probably wasn't massively impressed either, seeing as it had just travelled at quite frankly lunatic speed for a snail and was now the equivalent of about 3 light years from home.

All's well that ends well. I left him on the lid and took him back at the end of the day. Animal lover, me.

THAT was a beautiful story. Lovely car, by the way. I don't know much about these but they have always been in the back of my mind. Have you seen what Fensport do to toyotas?! You should!

I was car licence at 17 and bike at 21. I fell off it too many times and now drive everywhere... But I still use the winter jacket to walk the dog in..just to keep up the dressing like a prick theme!

Good story.

I don't ride to work below around 5 degrees, even then I often end up with a lot of wet gear cluttering the office and carrying a change of clothes.

Good man, I'd have done the same.

Big softy, me. Especially when it comes to animals. I genuinely would try not to hurt a fly, and will spend ages trying to usher it out of the window.

Antisocial, ignorant rat-faced chavs, however, are a different matter. They bring out my dark side.

Yep, saw the GT86 thread. Most impressed. Now dreaming of black alloys, fatter rubber and some spacers.
