My company car went back last week (goodbye to diesel at last :-)) so needed a family hack as neither the GTV or Boxster can play that role

Criteria were pretty straightforward, big enough for a family of three (plus dog), comfortable, safe, durable with a bit of poke as and when needed

Very few cars fitted the bill when the final criteria was added in to the mix - needed to be cheap

Enter the Saab 9-5 Aero that I collected today, bought from an active member of a Saab forum

FSH with last one 2000 miles ago
92k - we all know that is nothing for a 9-5
Full black leather with electric fronts and heated all round
Factory fit Xenons
Harmon Kardon stereo upgrade
Electric tilt and slide glass sunroof (believe this is quite a rare option)
Genuine Saab 18" alloys with plenty of tread left
11 months MOT
5 months tax

Stuck it on the motorway, set the cruise control and lapped up the stupid amounts of comfort and pleasantly surprised by the 36mpg on the journey home

Its not perfect (few bonnet stone chips and a small scrape on rear bumper) but everything works apart from rear parking sensors

Paid not a lot over £1k for it

Its had a few little mods so probably about 260bhp, standard is 250bhp

Saw that for sale on UKSaabs (currently in the market for a 9-5 aero but have a specific spec!), looked nice.

Not a fan of the wheels personally but glad to see another enthusiast has it!

Nice car, seen it on UKSaabs as well. Looks the same as mine apart from the wheels
You're right about the sunroof, not that common. Came back up the M1 today, London to J13, set the cruise to a gentle 60-65 and the SID read 42-43 mpg all the way. Its crazy how undervalued they are. Almost every extra, some of the most comfortable seats available and amazing overtaking/roll on acceleration. And they don't seem to suffer from rust either.

Started the clean yesterday and wanted to get the interior sorted first, have an almost pathological dislike of using controls that someone else has touched so absolutely everything was cleaned

Carpet cleaned and nice new mats fitted

Glass cleaned

Few minor marks removed with magic eraser

All leather rejuvenated and cleaned with Leatherique

Also managed to squeeze in a quick once over of engine bay and boot

Just an ITG filter - not sure on the dump valve to be honest, fortunately I have everything to revert it back to OE if I want to

My wife's Boxster S is just out of view, starting to get the the fleet that I want, never thought a GTV V6 would be the least powerful car in the household though

The bloke who manufactured a pair of exhaust manifolds said the same thing.

Both were pretty reliable.

Bit of work done this morning - wet sanding and polishing the headlights and the new wheels arrived - new old stock genuine Saab 18", made by BBS and for less than £300 delivered

Just sold the GTV as I bought an Aero Estate, does that count :-)
