Well after having the MR2 since the beginning of February I fancied a change. Clearly being 18 I needed to do the whole hot hatch thing. However I didn't want a hot hatch that was all show and no go.

A couple of my friends own RenaultSport Clios, with one owning an Iceberg Silver 172 Cup.

After driving said 172 Cup at Curborough and being a passenger in it I was impressed, seriously seriously impressed. I had been looking at replacing the MR2 with a Clio for a while, however circumstances meant that I was in a position where I was able to get one. Originally I had meant to look at a 182 however upon phoning the dealer they told me that it was sold.

I did go to look at a non-cup 182 however was underwhelmed, added to that my heart was set on a cup. So I had noticed this cup for sale a couple of weeks ago and liked the look of it. So today I went to see it and while it needs tidying up its not bad. The cambelt was done in 2011, 20k miles ago so that isn't an issue. Tyres seem to have plenty of life in them. All in all I'm quite happy with it.

Nice car op, My friend has a standard 182 with the cup chassis which is brilliant, these cars are such good value now, it would just be impossible to ignore them at those prices. How are you finding it compared to the MK2 MR2?

Quite expensive example there if you paid near the price advertised... but great little cars. I'm currently on my second Clio 182 and this one has served me really, really well. Any modifications planned?

Got a couple Got just over £100 off it which isn't too bad. Not had chance to drive it today however from what I found yesterday, its absolutely brilliant. So much more composed than the MR2, it just grips and grips. Absolutely love it.

Which hot hatches are "all show and no go"? Surely if that was a case, we wouldn't be talking about hot hatches anymore, just regular hatches?

Do you have to start bickering in every thread?

Nice new motor Luke, won't drift as well as the MR2 but it will be fun haha.

Maybe he meant ST150 Fiestas and such like? With 150bhp perhaps down slightly on what is considered a modern "hot hatch", but still a good car. Nice looking Clio look, enjoy cool

Awesome cars! My daily is a 172 Cup, exactly like that one. biggrin

I took it to the 'ring this summer and was amazed at how capable it was for a standard car.

Managed to fix a few of the niggles. Boot now locks and unlocks perfectly.
Passenger seat which was jammed in place now goes forwards and backwards.
Unfortunately in my effort to fix the washer jets I've caused a new problem. As soon as any liquid is introduced to the washer bottle it leaks straight out.

Now shod with a set of Conti Sport Contact 3s. Really impressed with it. It has also had an oil service at the same time so is ok for a while.
Hopefully I will be getting new brakes fitted on monday. The current ones are fine, but upon seeing how cheap brakes are for them I thought I might as well replace them.

So far I am seriously impressed with this little car.
