An oil burning 320 this time..

So, my mate's brother was getting rid of his car, and I was offered it..

185k miles, 2003 BMW 320d

This is the 150bhp version (m47n).

It needs a front strut, front brakes and possibly a front exhaust/front/rear brake pipe and 2 tyres

I paid £peanuts..

It needs a front damper/front discs and pads, exhaust looking at and a couple of tyres

What do we think?

I'm thinking daily derv pocket rocket
















And a sad end for the 328..

I'd reckon so.

It needs maybe £350 worth of parts for the MOT So first plan will be seeing if its worth putting back on the road.

If it can be, I'd be looking to make it a daily smoker..


failing that, as you suggest- parting is the way forward

Yeah it was very cheap- would have been rude not to

Had a bit of a raid about this during the week,

45 minutes spent trying to get the locking wheelnuts off- eventually got 3 of them off.

I also got the blowing exhaust sorted fairly simply, so that was good

The brakes, however, are somewhat more in need of replacement:





So looks like new discs and pads needed there!

Think its been about 4 months or so- brakes are shocking!

Wouldn't E46 have the M54 engine?

320D are bad on fuel in my experience.

M54 is petrol 6pot, this is the m47n 4cyl diesel, re fuel, I know this particular car is capable of 55+ on a run. I drove it several times when my mate had it,inc a trip to Riga for his stag do

Even if I get 50mpg, that'll be 16 more than the e30..

At £200, you can't complain. Do some reading on '320D Swirl Flap Mod'. I think BMW only charge £250 for the mod work.

Good to see you got the decent sport steering wheel. Early E46s had the steering wheel from the previouls 3 series which looked incredibly dated in the E46.

I've been looking into the swirl flap delete, but I'm unsure as to whether this car has already had the work done- it had a new turbo at 113k miles, so was completely stripped down for that. That, and spending more than the car cost on 1 mod would upset my delicate bangernomic disposition;-)

Yeah the wheel is decent- has had a clean and a wee bit of polish to tidy it up.
