I've had rather a trying time with the old bugger in the last couple on months. I won't go into the details but there have been times recently, while sat at the side of the road because an actual puddle has stopped us in our tracks, that I have very seriously considered selling up buying something newer and less...characterful.

Also, the CD stacker in the boot has recently gone west, so I decided to check if the cassette function of the radio cassette still worked. How I laughed with childish delight, after digging out an old cassette, to find it was working. 80s-tastic! Madonna's first album on tape, in an old Golf GTI. Who wouldn't laugh a bit?

Not feeling so down-hearted I reckon we're over the bad patch (me and the car, not me and Madonna) so I decided to wash the ungrateful heap. The CAR!

Well, really, how could I sell it on when it looks at me like this?

Now, I've had a look and the only cassettes I can find, haven't bought one in yeeeeears, are;

Madonna, first album
Crowded House, first album
Del Amitri; waking hours
Simply Red, Picture book
KLF, White room
REM, Life's rich Pageant

Now, all I need is a map to Memory Lane and I'm off...

Cheers. I reckon it'll be a while before I let it go now.

I've just ditched the modern CD player in my 88 16v to go back to a Blaupunkt tape deck. Lots of old tapes plus an iPod connector works brilliantly.

Your GTI is really lovely, miss my Mk2 Golf days, good times (I did it for most of the 90s). Regarding the music situation, if you have Del Amitri & Crowded House what more do you need?! Bit of Madonnas for the ladies..retrotastic!

Much better to have a single tape deck than a single CD stereo, just grab yourself an IPod adapter and best of both worlds

Brilliant garage you have there OP, I couldnt imagine not having a Corrado VR6 in my life

Love mk2 gtis. Nearest I got was a big bumpered mk2 Jetta 1.6TX. smile

I am currently surviving with a cassette iPod adaptor, thanks to a dead CD changer in my TT - can't believe it came with cassette even in 2002!

The adaptor works pretty well with my Android phone and sounds OK and is less messing than the FM tuner I tried, but the first one I bought was gash. I hear the Philips one is best, but my Teck Tesco special works well. smile
Thing is you can buy a very good single CD head unit with all the inputs you need for pennies these days, just look at the halfords website.
