Just bought this on a whim semi-blind ( I had seen it briefly about a year ago )with the intention of turning it into a stage rally car for myself. For what I paid I was expecting a half decent car with a solid shell to donate, nothing more. After a quick bucket and sponge I was amazed to find it almost a minter, just 40,000 miles with history and not even a parking dink in sight! Even the interior is what I would describe as mint, carpets , seats, the lot. Must had been laid up for years in the dry at some point. Cannot believe my luck, it is far to good to turn into a rally car so it will be saved, enjoyed and kept as mint as possible. According to the howmanyleft.co.uk website there is less than 60 of these AX GTs taxed and in use as of now, so this one is in safe hands.
Ahh I remember having one of these as a 17 year old lad (albeit the MK2) when all my mates were driving around in 1 litre 106s. I'd have another one tomorrow, and if I were to find a low mileage Mk2 anywhere I will be having another.

Awesome, I LOVE those. I've had 4 of them, and a GTi. If I didn't have the BX 16v I'd have one of these in it's place - they're just so much fun. James May said they were the best car in the world. True story.

Lost the rear bumper on the motorway and it had a bad carb icing problem which meant a few embarrassing times when the AA would show up, turn it over and it fire back into life for them.
I'd have another in a heartbeat, they don't and couldn't make them like this anymore!

Great find!The wheels were diamond cut originally weren't they. Looked quite classy at the time.
I did the 205gti thing but my little bro had an AX GT500. Last 500 made.

When I was 17 if you had a Nova SR you were cool but if you had an AX GT you were uber cool.
That's back in 1995 I'm on about mind but once I get my house finished I'll be on the hunt for an 80's hot hatch to restore.

The OP's GT looks to be a facelift by the body coloured wheelarches etc, and should have 4 stud wheels - a bigger size than the original model 3 stud. When the 5 door came out it shared the new bigger wheels of the facelift, but for a whole batch citroen forgot to fit the recalibrated speedo - which made it a bit inaccurate!
Had a Mk2 GT as my second car in 97, it was pretty rapid after getting it set up on a rolling road with a re-jetted carb, and taught me about lift off oversteer as well 
I chopped it in for a Saxo VTS in 98, wish I'd kept it.
