Golf R32 MK5 DSG

Hi all,
I've had this car since last summer, and it's my second R32. I had a blue manual MK5 prior to this, which I regret selling the moment the new owner drove off in it. I came very, very close to buying a 57 plate audi S3 but decided I couldn't live with the back end, and I couldn't afford a newer sportback which IMO looks much better.
It's got it's flaws, sure.. it's heavy, thirsty, doesn't handle *that* well but the noise it makes is absolutely incredible. I could probably live without a radio in this and just drive around with the windows down all the time! (And I do even in awful weather).
I picked this up for a fair bit less than similar cars. It's an 06, and was on 48k in need of a major service, tyres all around, bonnet cable was seized and a few other niggly bits. I was aware of everything that it needed, so I was happy to pay for the work myself ending up spending what I would have with a 'sorted' car with the benefit of knowing that everything would be done properly.
Since buying it i've done the following:
Tinted windows (leather was starting to be sun damaged in the rear)
Non-resonated milltek cat-back
4x Goodyear Eagle F1 tires
Full service inc Haldex, DSG, Spark plugs etc etc
All wheels refurbished in satin matt black this week.
Legal pressed metal plates from Dubmeister
Various other minor niggles/gremlins that needed fixing.
As i'm hoping to keep this for another 16 months at least (must stop looking at classifieds) i'll probably have an aftermarket suspension setup fitted with a tasteful bit of lowering as the stock one is starting to feel a bit tired now. Apart from that i've got it looking exactly as I want, except perhaps some 6000k bulbs to replace the stock 4000k.
When the time comes it'll probably be replaced by an 2010/2011 Audi S4 or if i'm feeling brave an early E90 M3.
Here's the car just after I picked it up - still with the owner's dodgy private plate.
And yesterday, just after getting back from a blast out in the countryside so it's a bit dirty. Still has some residue from the tyres being refitted after I had the wheels refurbed..

I do like these alot! But couldn't justify spending that much on tax and petrol. Also not very confident with that dsg gearbox, knowing that if it goes kerplunk, it would more than likely ruin me.
New one looks nice, though I think it suited the silver wheels more. Too many spokes I think.

Nowhere near the nice sound of the v6 in the r32 bit I'm hoping its a bit lighter on fuel

Maybe you shouldn't assume my journeys.
'Urban' driving on 30/40 roads at rush hour returns low mpg on these cars faults or not.
I rarely do longer journeys, and I suffer from an extremely heavy right foot.
50 miles a week this I can live with, but it'd be nice to be able to break 30mpg in a 2/300 mile trip.

Mine has returned 27 mpg over a mixed journey type over 7 years
Hmmmm, think I preferred the silver wheels. The black ones seem to just make it more chavy and less of a grown up hot hatch.
Do love the R32's though, may have to try one in a few years after my 130i. When I was looking all R32's within my budget were massive mileage though, seem to hold their value very well if low miles.
