Just finished this project and hope to get it tested and on the road soon! Enjoyed the restoration and the build, modifying, painting. It is fitted with a 3.5 rover v8 and holley carb. Had to have a v8 in my life!!! Couple of other mantas which I will try and upload later. I am a newbie to this forum, but have been visiting it for years.

Just for info about engine bay, Tunnel was cut inside the car and made wider to allow easy removal of gearbox, also the area below where the heater sits was cut back toward the bulkhead to ensure no interference and allow the engine sit back further. A heater unit from a retro vw polo is now in place, as is the brake servo from a polo. The pedal box was modified in the car to accommodate a hydraulic clutch instead of cable and a mini master is in place. The front panel which the bonnet locks onto has also been cut back as I have used a aluminium radiator from a merc v8 engine. The lips along the chassie legs on each side were cut back flush and seam welded. The chassie legs where the drain holes are located next the bulkhead have had strengthened gussets welded into place. The cross member also had a check out to allow the sump max clearance when the engine fitted. Modified the engine mounts to suit. Fabbed up brackets to mount the radiator , there welded to a new front cross member which is further forward in the bay. A lot of the work I done in the bay was not totally necessary, but it makes putting the engine in and out a breeze. There were more details done , but I think I have bangned on enough for now about manta engine bays.

will have to find some pics of the 400 build, technology is a bit tricky as I am a bit of a Fossil myself. LOL. This car is booked in for an m.o.t tomorrow, so fingers crossed.

Hi, I bought it as a Mantzel Kit, the mattig kit is larger kit I think. There are some pics of a mattig kit on the net. Not easy to come by nowadays, Running 335 60 15 on the rear 295 0n the front.......and no power steering fitted!!

Love the Mantas. The 79 custom has dome nice touches. I used to have a GTE with a 400 kit on it, so still have a soft spot for those.
