I'm sure somewhere in the deep dark depths of Pistonheads I put together one of these prior to my MX5; however day 1 into my holiday from work i've hit boredom and Monday night cider drinking so i though i would throw this together.

Aged 19 (2008) i bought a nice, clean and standard Honda Civic LSi for £900, and subsequently tore it to pieces to the point where i realised by the time i'd finished, the only parts of the car, inside and out that had not been changed were the doors, roof/sunroof, rear quarters and rear bumper.

Basic run down was a 1.6 Vtec engine with the camshafts from a DC2 integra, integra gearbox with a higher final drive and a mechanical 'plate type' LSD and a basic ransack of the entire Honda parts catalogue for things like brakes from a V6 honda legend, suspension arms from an integra type R. This along with coilovers and fixed bucket seats made for a hoot of a car on the road and on track.

By the time i was 21 i'd took the car to the point where it was a laugh to drive all day, but i was doing 3-400 miles per week in fixed buckets and harnesses, with a spoon N1 (read loud) exhaust and a short ratio gearbox that would clunk like mad if you were turning with anything less than full throttle mashed, due to the LSD. So i decided i would buy myself something sensible from the Honda range.....

Due to my enthusiasm for tinkering with Honda's i decided to make a few 'improvements' to my second civic.

Eibach lowering springs with neccessary camber adjusters
Gruppe M induction kit
2.5 inch exhaust with a prodrive rear silencer modified to fit.
Recaro seats from a 30th Anniversary.

All done with the brief that i would not make the car any louder/uncompromising; just to make it slightly more fun as an every day driver whilst i was at University.

Come 2013, i had finished up at Uni, done my 'Gap Yah' in Oz and was back and into a job. Such a situation meant that i didn't really have the time to justify having two cars, and that the logical move was to get rid of the blue civic and use the cash for sensible thing......

Queue the arrival of my latest second car.

Again, the MX5 has a few modifications in the form of;

E30 BMW BBS wheels
Gaz gold coilovers
Fixed bucket seats
Half roll cage and harness bar
Aftermarket exhaust

The car is an absolute joy to drive, albeit a bit slow compared to the CTR which will be tottering somewhere just over 200hp with the additions of the freer flowing exhaust and intake and the previous civic which was reckoned to be around 185-190bhp.

However i'm currently up in arms as to whether i should turbo the MX5, or source and buy another EG honda civic, so either way the power dilemma should be taken care of.

Cheers,
Ross.

Three nice cars there buddy, as an owner of a mk1 mx5 my vote goes for the turbo route. That will give the mazda the extra grunt it deserves.

Cheers mate. The mazda would be a cracker of a car with 170-200hp i would say; as with the gaz coilovers and the geometry being set up by Paul Roddison; it certainly has the handling aptitude that would happily handle the extra power of a turbo or supercharger set up.
