MK2 Rev3 Toyota MR2
Discussion
I've wanted an MR2 for years, but due to insurance it's been on hold for a while. Plus, I had to at least get a few years driving before venturing into a mid-engined RWD car. Imagine that at 17? Huge fireballs would be imminent!
It's not one of the cleanest examples, and it does appear to have been stood at some point in its life, but at 18 years old and 137,000 miles, it's my new daily, weekend car and everything inbetween.
There are a couple of niggles that need sorting, which i'm slowly working through. The first was major wheel wobble at 65mph+, this has been rectified with simple balancing being done, which I think there's at least 40 grams of wheel weights per side!
Fuel economy is poor (avg. 26 mpg over the last 3 tanks, and that's not thrashing it either!) and the idle seems to be a little 'off'. It idled around 1200rpm, but taking the throttle body off and cleaning everything including the idle control valve seems to have helped, but now the idle is still a little high, at 1000rpm. I suspect it's the coolant temp sensor, but that'll have to wait until next week.
I have no real plans as to mods, i'd rather get everything working and running right first. I only have 1 picture at the moment, will grab a couple more tomorrow. I have a bit of spare time so creating this thread now.

Looking good! Enjoy your mr2 journey.
Just about to start the next chapter of mine - my NA is going and im on the lookout for a turbo! The NA's are great fun and i know i will regret it as soon as the car is sold. But you can't enjoy one car forever...

Not sure on your plans, but if you live in an area with poor roads try and avoid 17" alloys. They make it very uncomfortable for me driving around east london. Will be getting 16" for my next mr2.
An apexi induction kit will give you a great soundtrack without destroying the cruising comfort. But make sure to stick it right down in the intake area if you do fit one, to avoid heat soak.
Join mr2oc and imoc for advice etc. Some great people in the mr2 community. I mean that.

FYI, I'm pretty sure this is just what they do. My friend's is the same. Seems high for an N/A 2.0. I assume it's to do with the low gearing.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
