Young gun with an XJR.

It all started at work. I walked in one day and my manager told me I was owed 5 weeks off, paid.
So came the first day off of 35, I did what every PH'er would do. I had a fantastic lay-in, a decent breakfast and went through the classifieds (when they worked
) whilst sitting in my PJ's with a cuppa. And then I saw it. Right there, staring me in the face was a 1 owner from new, 2004 4.2 Supercharged V8 XJR. It was near on perfect for me. Dark wood (a must for me) with the standard 19inch wheels and red stitching on the black leather seats, all for a silly low price. I never wanted to sell my 1997 Volvo V70R (that was quite modified). I actually intended to strip it and rebuild it and keep it as a classic 
I mulled it over the 'R' for a few days. I put the link on a PH'er-esque fb group and one of the member's even rang up the owner and enquired. I thought it would go and that would be that. C'est la vie.....and then some bloke called Bob Crow died at the age of 52. 'f
k it', I thought. You only live once, I do crappy shifts and the cost to change wont be that much. What's the worst that can happen? I really hoped the owner didn't pass the attitude test.
He did.
The next day I was viewing the car, and the day after that my God father was test driving the car. After putting a fair offer in - that was immediately accepted - all there was to do was wait for the original registration to go on the car.
Within 3 days I owned over 700bhp between two cars. My cheeks still ache from the smile it gave me that day!
Well what does the car need? Not much really. There is a bush on the front end that needs sorting, the wheels need a refurb and the rear tyres are on their way out. Oh, and the OSR has a scrape. Apart from that everything is bang on. The bork-age bits have either all been sorted, or are absolutely spot on.
I've just had the brake fluid, coolant and air con regassed, and I intend to do all the filters in the next few weeks. I will also get the gearbox flushed for my own peace of mind. Then i'll start the spending on the cosmetic bits and I might even get it wet sanded.
The car is so bloody competent and always puts a smile on my face. I'm not your average XJ owner, let alone R owner as i'm only 24, but i've had nothing but positive comments about the car. Everyone at work out of the car scene thinks i've spent upwards of £30k
Oh, and that NOISE. The only V8 notes that I like are the Merc's and the Supercharged Jags
I am a happy happy boy, and it makes those awful night shifts a bit more palatable when you've been walking around in the sodding rain, wind and general crappy weather

It's quite the outside lane clearer with it's headlights on, which is nice when you simply want to make progress....on the continent!

Apparently I was owed 3 weeks of leave 
and it just so happened that it fell right in between 7 days off at the beginning and 5 days off at the end. (Ok, so it was 32 days
)Lovely - I've always thought these are incredibly under rated cars. I've got the same model (sadly only a 3.0 V6!) and I love it to the extent that it'll likely be replaced with an XJR like yours. Oh, and if you think it's unusual owning an XJ at 24, I'm 19!

Always had a soft spot for for Jags.
One thing though, I've only ever driven a few customers cars and never more than a few miles, but I always found the pedal box area cramped. Maybe it was always because I was wearing work boots plus I have size 11 feet, but do you have the same feeling?
