Honda Accord TypeR

Recently sold my weekend toy - MR2 Roadster. It had been excellent, a great fun little car for a blast around but I fancied a change. I didnt really want to spend any more than I got for the MR2 and wanted a fast, fun, different car. I ended up with and Accord Type R, for exactly the same as I sold the 2 for (close to shed money!).

Last few owners were from Accrord forum. The 5th gear syncro hopefully sorted and cambelt recently done. It is a bit messy but I quite like having bits to improve and tinker with. I have not really driven it properly yet but first impressions were pretty good.
So far I have concentrated on the interior. Took out the seats, door cards and console. Good clean, fitted 9 screws that I found missing, removed old hands free kit and fitted the stereo properly. The upgraded speakers fell out of the door cards! I made some MDF fillers and fitted them properly.

Next up is the exterior. Really needs wheel refurb. Ill take some better pics of the exterior when its looking better

I like these. I prefer them with the lower rear aerofoil but I wouldn't say no.

I ran one of these for a while some years ago,loved it,awesome recaro seats,you could really feel the LSD tightening your line round corners.Mine had the 5th gear synchro replaced while I owned it but other than that was great.Is it pirates black?

Pretty sure aerofoils are for planes. Much the same thing but never heard someone use that term when referring to a car.

I think all ATR`s came with the bigger rear wing/spoiler as standard.

Nice, miss mine too. The accord sport had the lower spoiler didn't it. I guess it can be swapped over. However the accord type is is pretty much engine , seats and spoiler . Otherwise it's just an accord.

Yes it is Pirates. Ill try and get a better picture of the purple look. Lovely colour.

Thats where I bought it. You are right, looks like lots of knowledge there.

Here are a couple of the very nice cleaned Recaros, removed and cleaned console area and doorcards....while carefully avoiding the still messy passenger footwell!

Did a bit of cleaning/pain correction using my Porter Cable machine polisher. Just to the wings and bonnet today. Its got rid of a good amount of swirls and brought out the pirate black. Also added a few better pictures of the car.

Thanks very much. It needs a bit more work of the front carpets but a fresh set of mats should help cover up imperfections!

Awesome cars, I'm on my second. I saw you got this motor over on the accordr forum, congratulations it wasn't a lot of money in the end I don't think. Check out my thread in the vids and pics section over there if you want to see another pirates black getting a makeover.

Your seats look good for the age, a little tip if there is any bobbling on the alacantra on the bolster use a sharp Stanley blade to scrape the bobbles off.

Makes me miss mine! You have done a good job cleaning it up, the polish definitely made a difference!

I knocked him down a bit more too. Ah I think I saw some of your makeover, pretty serious in depth. Impressive! Thanks, good tip. I used a set of old hair clippers. Seemed to do ok!

Not got any performance plans as of yet. Just work of the looks and establish the general state of play with it first. Looking forward to getting it on the road next month

The only things I did to my one were a Typhoon air filter , and light weight flywheel .

Still miss my one for the seats , engine looks , breaks ............. well everything really

Attempted a bit of dent removal today. I thought a little kit called Am-Tech dent removal kit was worth a go for 6 from Amazon. Quite impressed. Not perfect but a definite improvement. It takes a few goes to get a good pull on the dent you are trying to pull so requires some patience.

Keep up the hardwork mate, these cars are getting rarer and deserve an owner who will put a bit of work into looking after them. Do you live in East Anglia? I saw a very similar car to yours on the A14 near Bury St Edmunds a couple of weeks back...
