Little introduction... I have been lurking around these forums for a while now...
I've got a small collection of Motorcyces which i have been riding for 3 years now, the time has finally come to get my first car... With the purpose of doing my 16 mile a day commute as i'm finally fed up with riding my motorcycles in the bad weather.

So I'm 20 years old, wanted a cheap basic car to commute in, primary focus had to be cheap insurance and comfortable to drive (I'm 6ft 4)...

So here is what i ended up with...

1992 Polo Breadvan Mk3 (Mk2F) 1.3 Litre Single Point Injection... Beast i know

Very clean interior, Bodywork is in good condition, Well looked after all round

Does what it says on the tin... 400 well spent

Nice little runabout! I had a GT as a 'station car' for a short while, and it was a perfectly reliable little hack.

Looking at the engine photo has just reminded me of something that you should consider when the weather gets a bit colder. The outlet from the top of the exhaust manifold would have once had a flexible metallic hose that ran into the extra air intake on the filter housing. This recirculates warm air and helps quite a bit with cold starting/running, which is a nice quick win for an easier life. I'm sure they are available for a very small amount of cash from GSF or ECP.

Lovely car, had a D reg Polo Coupe S at uni. Cost 100 with a months MOT, 80 a year to service and MOT at the local garage, sold for 200 three years later to a collector. I have very fond memories of it. Used to sit at 80 or so on the motorway quite happily for hours.

My first car was a 1987 version of this, in grey complete with 4 speed box. I went bloody every in the thing, it took me to uni and back daily, commuted to my first job in it and it never really broke. I think mine was 998cc with 45bhp, it'd struggle to do 80mph.

My parents had a 1992 Polo Coupe in black, which I still think is a good looking car, again never broke!

I'd love a G40, fetch mega money now though.

There was a lovely one on Club G40 up for 3.5k and it didn't sell for ages. Not really mega money compared to equivalent Golf GTIs in decent nick, but like the Golfs it's getting harder to find an honest non-rusty one.

got a 88 breadvan myself ...bought as a cheap temp snotter but liked it so much weve kept it and tidied it up , good reliable cheap to run cars

Great little run abouts , between me & my younger brother we must have had half a dozen mk2/mk2 facelify (like yours although often mistakenly called a mk3) over the years plus a few Coupes to including a GT with circa 110hp NA & stripped out.

It's quite amazing how practical they are and a doddle to work on - save rusty bolts!

Polo3 forum and Club Polo are both really useful for info/DIYs/parts !

These are superb runabouts. So cheap to run and very reliable. I've had most of the variants, 1.0, 1.3, 1.3 GT and even a G40

The G40 is a lot of fun, but fragile, the GT you can have a proper laugh in without doing license losing speeds.

My dad bought one of these to teach me to drive in back in 2000, think it only cost a grand back then. Candy stripe interior wasnt my favorite part of the car.

Little update:

Having just had a nice sunny weekend, i took the oppertunity to give the interior a good cleaning, and give the exterior a good wash and polish

I also decided to get the slightly tired looking bumpers back to black...

And here is the results!
