997 Carrera 2 S

I haven't done one of these on here for any previous cars but thought id do one now.
My car history is 20+ cars longs in 12/13 years of driving.
I recently sold my 996 as i fancied a BMW M6, then i started looking at Aston martin DB9's and V8V but after driving all three cars i just couldn't get excited about them as much i did for the 911.
I started looking at 997's and decided to go for a Carrera S.
This was my 996 that i owned for 15 months.
And this is the 997 i bought yesterday. Will get some better pictures once i collect it tomorrow and get it cleaned. Its a 2004 Carrera 2 S manual with sport chrono.
First plans are New tyres all round. The current ones are ok tread wise but there are plenty of cracks so these will be swapped in the next few days.
The 997's were changed to 2 year services and this was done 12 months ago but for my peace of mind i'm going to get it booked into my local indie for a minor service and let them check it over and have a low temp thermostat fitted along with fresh antifreeze.
Will hopefully get out on a PH drive out soon too so will be keeping an eye on the thread in the yorkshire section.

Very nice. Is that midnight blue or a different blue? It looks different to midnight, but that could just be the camera.
What sort of spec is it - sports seats being about the only interesting option I can remember. And Bose, possibly.
Nearly bought one of these, viewed and test drove some, but eventually did the opposite to you and bought Aston instead. I too had been interested in the M6/M5, but figured they were the worst in terms of smiles-per-. Did you test an M6?
Great looking and great driving car though, and becoming very affordable. A 911 just has to be owned at some time doesn't it.

No sports seats. The 996 had the sports seats and to be honest the normal ones don't feel that different.What sort of spec is it - sports seats being about the only interesting option I can remember. And Bose, possibly.

I drove the M6 and it was nice, fast and comfy but wasn't exciting and i wasn't a big fan of the gearbox. Same with the Astons. I really liked the look of the V8V but again just didn't feel excited about driving it.
I only went to have a look at this 911 as it was local and didn't intend to buy, but once i had given it a good looking over and saw the history it was hard to walk away from it. 3 owners last one owning it from 2006.
Killing me having to wait until tomorrow. Could have took it yesterday but my insurance company are closed until tomorrow.

That wouldn't have stopped me... I would have gone online and paid for 24 hour car insurance Cant remember if it had bose or not now. Will have a look when i pick it up.

Well i picked up the car on Tuesday afternoon. (yes it has Bose)
Not had much time to drive it due to work and the weather but it does drive much better than the 996 it replaced.
I've just ordered a new set of tyres that will be getting fitted at the weekend. Will be investing in new wiper blades also if the rain keeps up.
I will get some more pics if it stops raining long enough to clean it.

Well bit of dry weather today so i managed to give the car a clean and take a few pictures. Hopefully going to get it book in for a detail after its been serviced.
Tail pipes really need a polish but i could not find my autosol as the garage is a dump right now
The car needs a few parts and first up was the oil pressure switch. This seems to be a common failure part on 911's as i had to replace this on the 996 aswell. Nice easy job though and only takes 10 mins.
The old faulty part.
The Third brake light (well its the forth really) in the active spoiler is faulty and a new part is on the way. Had to buy it from Design911 as the part was on a 3-4 week back order at OPC. Again this is a 2 min job to swap and will put up more pics of this on Monday when it arrives.
I ordered a low temp thermostat kit also to help lower the temps on bank 2 and hopefully help prevent/slowdown scoring.
This part starts to open from 71 degrees as opposed to 83 degrees. I will fit this during the week sometime.
A 2012 satnav disc arrived today but I've found out i need the firmware updating in the PCM for this to work so its on hold for now.
4 new tyres are on there way from Tyreleader. I have gone for Vredestein ultrac sessanta's all round. I had these on the rear of the 996 and they were so much better than the conti's they replaced especially in the wet.
I'm now also on the look for a replacement exhaust. Undecided whether to go for a full sports system or a PSE type system. I had a fabspeed exhaust on the 996 and it sounded great but got annoying if you just wanted to have a steady drive.
A service will be carried out in a few weeks then a detail after and the wheels will be getting refurbished.
That's it just for now.

Good choice I must say.
The tyres you've ordered have been brilliant on my M3, in all conditions, and got plenty of life out of them too.
You may benefit from putting some Rain X type product on your windscreen instead of or as well as new wipers. Used it for years on all the windows not just windscreen.

Don't really see the point. I already have the car. If there not scored then I've paid for nothing. If there are scored there isn't anything that can be done except rebuild it. There's no ticking at idle hot or cold and no smoke from bank 2 so i'm not going to hung up over what may happen and just enjoy the car.Tints will be going from the front windows just because i cant be bothered with getting pulled by the police for them. rears can stay as there not hurting anything.
