Bangernomics - Peugeot 206 2.0 HDI

Well I have enetered the bangernomics scheme, purchased yesterday my 2003 '03' Peugeot 206 2.0 HDI for the grand sum of £450, 10 months Tax and 6 months MOT.

Wasn't overly fussed on what cheap car to buy, but the criteria was it had to be under £500 and have MOT and tax, other than that nothing else bothered me, petrol, diesel, colour, make anything.

Had seen this car mis advertised on Ebay and it was local too, was listed under 'car parts' as opposed to 'cars' description was also off stating it was a 1800 HDI? Peugeot never made an 1800 206 diesel.

I contacted the seller and viewed it while the auction was live and spotted a few bits that needed attention, stuck my bid in and won it with only one other competitor bidding.

Bills for cambelt, water pump and new catalytic converter all done within last six months for more than what I paid for the car!

Went for a long test drive with the seller prior to handing over any money as the seller wanted to make sure I was happy, can report back the car pulls strong in all gears and everything seems pretty solid.

Last years MOT cert with no advisories, has had a thorough inspection since I have got it home and can say all is good, also in the boot was a com 2000 unit to replace the existing one which had sometimes put the airbag light on.

Shouldn't be too slow I have the same engine in my 307 and get the idea the engine will outlast the car before the interior falls apart

get a hdi tuning remap for 90 quid and you have then a 50mpg anywhere warm hatch..

looks like a great buy - I love these cars where a full tank is 10-15% of the cars value!
better sort the abs light to get it through the next MOT though it your keeping it that long.

That's a bargain buy, bar far the best engine and gearbox fitted to these, the mechanicals will outlast the rest.

can't lose with that! even when you scrap it, the catalytic converter on them weighs in for £200,alloys sell for £120 scrap the rest for £100 that nearly all your cash back.

Ah my first car was a blue 2.0Hdi - happy memories! One of the pulleys broke somewhere on the aux belt on mine, I think it had been severely neglected though.

Well the little Pug is performing quite well, im quite enjoying my new shed life.
I have treated the car to a oil change, all new filters and a new set of glow plugs due to a quite slow start issue which has now been resolved.
Pretty chuffed with the Pug and my new love of bangernomics.

Great cars these!! I had a mapped one for 2 years and put 60k on it, including a trip to the 'ring...

I would however suggest changing the low pressure fuel pump in the tank, mine disintegrated slightly and happily pumped bits of swarf through the entire fuel system, meaning a new high pressure fuel pump, injector rail & injectors. It still had a misfire, so a part-exd it for a 172 cup.

Well the little pug is achieving an average of 49 mpg, you gotta love shed life.

To fill the tank was almost 15% value of the car!
